This is about right and wrong, and the long-term effects upon our society...not religion. Just so happens Christianity played a large hand in determining what constitutes right and wrong in this country. Nobody has taken away any of your rights...they are no different from mine. But attempting to change the definition of "marriage" is wrong. Attempting to infringe upon my Constitutional rights (freedom of speach and practicing religion) is wrong. And attempting to create a protected class of citizens by enacting special laws regarding them is also wrong...all the laws required to ensure equal treatment of all are already on the books.

KK Thor... goes to find that elusive rolling eyes smiley

I seen this today and thought it was rather fitting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntC0PNHFRgU

Even without sound that was pretty good. Thor's head may explode though after he sees the end of it. Well... as if he would actually watch it.

That video was retarded. In every sense of the word. And I don't understand if you guys know that Thor will continue to think the way he does WHY on earth do you continue to argue with him on a never-ending matter. It's like trying to convince Bush that there are no weapons of mass destruction. I mean you guys are better than that and you know how stubborn he is so why stress yourselves out over it?And can't you guys have an "argument" about gay marriage and whatnot without reducing and degrading the Bible to horseshibble? Por favor, senors y senoritas?

Its true!!
-
It might have done nothing to enhance my argument (which actually wasn't the point) I just though since we were talking about gay marriage I found it fitting *shrug*.
Regardless I thought the video put it's point out there that not ALL traditions are worth keeping nor are all traditions followed.... just the ones people choose to listen to, all others are ignored.

I understand what you're saying Eddie. I just feel like the video grossly exaggerates a position to the point where it's ludicrous. The best way to counter an argument is to counter an argument. Not make up one that doesn't exist. There are some rational, intelligent arguments for gay marriage (or at least against the anti-gay-marriage position). Why can't they stick with those?
-
It's weakened by the fact that things it suggests were old customs, like chastity belts and the local lord deflowering the bride, were never standard.
-
the video niether makes nor breaks the point. It's little more than ham-handed satire. But it does address the question that has yet to be answered... If one supports the "traditional" definition of marriage, how does one choose which of the countless traditions in our history is valid? For that matter, who has the right to make those choices for anyone else?
-
I'm wondering if you (and the video) are confusing the difference between what a marriage IS and how it is done. The same-sex marriage question addresses the first, not the latter.
-
As an example, dictionary.com list 10 definitions. Some including inanimate objects. Is it an argument of tradiotn, religion or samantics? It seems people are getting hung up on ownership the a word.

Huge discussion to be had there, huh?I think I'll leave that to you and Thor!

Jesus jumped up fuck, this thread is still on top?
Iv been away for what? 2 fucking weeks and still?
I want new thread titles even if they are all the same arguments! -
That's a good start. Now, more and more lesbian, bisexual or gay come out. We have the right to live the life we want. Don't be shy and hide yourself. Swing both ways from now on.
