From the information I've gathered it there seems to be a consensus that you can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. But There are some other concepts I've learned about that would make me think otherwise.I understand that doing cardio for 30-45 minutes in the morning before eating will burn fat because there is no food to fuel your training. So I'm thinking by continuing with my current weight training and eating habits, and adding this early morning cardio I could still make strength and muscle gains while burning fat.Is my reasoning flawed, or is this concept of running in the morning to burn fat false? If I am not going to be gaining any muscle while burning fat, do you think this would be a good method to burn fat while maintaining the muscle and strength I have now?

Losing fat, while gaining muscle?

But the problem with exercising with no food in you, is that, you might over-eat your next meal, to make up for the negative calories in your body. What would be good, is to have a small something, in the range of 100-200 calories, like a breakfast bar, most are 90, and then do your running. You won't eat as much to make up for neg's, and it's good to have some carbs in you, too. Otherwise it's kind of like running a car w/ barely any gas. Diet and exercise go hand in hand for losing fat, and gaining muscle, so I would say, maintain your exercise/diet that you're doing to lose weight/fat, and do a separate exercise to gain muscle.
