Ok when I was little (I'm 14 now) I had to go to the dentist every now and then and it seemed like every time I went I had to have a tooth pulled and I have been afraid of the dentist ever since. So I have basicly got to the point where going to the dentist doesn't bother me until about a month ago and I went to get my teeth cleaned and I don't have a problem with that but when he told me I have to have a feeling done and I said ok and when I went to get it done I couldn't do it because I got afraid of the shot novicane and told them forget it. So I'm asking what does the novicane feel like, How do they apply the novicane because I'm not sure, and when does the whole operation feel like during it and after it and please be specific.

A REALLY BIG FEAR
-
What do you have to have done? A feeling...what's that? Anyways the novacaine doesn't hurt. They inject it with a needle. It's no biggie.
-
By "feeling" I presume you mean "filling".The anaesthetic is given into your gums by a needle. Dentists are usually extremely good at bringing the needle round from behind so you never see it. It's a fine needle, so it doesn't hurt much - a slight stinging during the injection. Then they give it time to take effect, and that part of your mouth becomes numb. Then the dentist will drill out the decayed part of the tooth. It's not pleasant, that part - not excruciating, but I don't like it much. You've got your mouth open, often with cotton swabs packed all around the tooth in question, trying to keep your tongue out of the way of the drill, a suction tube in your mouth sucking up saliva with a disgusting sound, the drill whirring and vibrating your jaw; and the dentist asks, "Where are you going for your holidays?". Then the hole is filled - that's no problem - and you go home with part of your lips numb for the next couple of hours.
-
novacaine doesn't hurt-- just a pinch at most. then it goes numb. you can ask for a numbing cream ahead of time if it bothers you. as for the fillings--- a lot of drilling. nothing major.
-
man... I sooo hate needles, I don't mind doing it to other people but not for myself lolIt just feels like a small scratch with they put it in, I usually take my mp3 player and listen to music while they are doing it so I can't hear the drill (man, that’s enough to make your spine chill just thinking about it).Although with my "fear" of needles I've had four (count them FOUR) filling done without any anaesthetic... the last one done without I passed out on due to the pain... lol I've put up with the injection ever since.
-
then why respond?
-
because
-
because why?
-
Its nothin. They apply some numbing cream on your gum, then flap your lip while they insert the needle. I dont mind that one, since I can't see it. If I can see it, I flip.
-
Because. because why?
It's not bad at all. Don't hurt one bit. The worst is afterwards, you can't eat or drink. :smirk: Be careful not to bite the side of your mouth. Did I scare you enough. Just picking. -
LOL, Wow, I missed this post, but I wanna say some to Ineligable. Thats some graphic shit you described,"It's not pleasant, that part - not excruciating.."loldamn funny post

What does the novicane Feel like and i ment FILLING when i said FEELING
-
Well, it doesn't FEEL like anything, because that's what it is supposed to do is kill all feeling. Have you ever had your hand go to sleep where you couldn't feel your fingers at all? That's what novocaine does to the area around the injection. If the dentist is any good, you shouldn't really even feel the injection. If they inject slowly, it will be a breeze. If they inject too fast, it will pinch or sting a tiny bit, but even that is not a big deal really.
Just tell that dentist that you are really scared and had bad experiences. He/she should understand and take things slowly.
-
haha A nice story about a filling I got, they injected A LOT of novacane into my mouth, and it made most of my face numb. So I decided, since I wouldn't feel anything; well I pierced my lip. bad idea. my parents freaked out, and it didn't look to good while it was healing, so I had to take it out.
-
About the novacaine. It all depends on the dentist. My dentist was an idiot and thought it would make it feel better to try and shove the needle all of the way through my cheek. I learned to hate him lol. Anyways i went to a new dentist and couldn't even feel the shot. And all the do for fillings is put a little metal to fill the cavity. No biggie
-
metal eh? My dentist uses clear stuff because the metal makes ur back teeth look dirty.
-
When they filled in the cavities that grew in with my teeth, they didn't give me ANY anesthetic... Didn't even hurt much either.
-
That means you have a very good dentist. Some dentists are not gentle especially when using anesthetics.
