Just a bit of a joke...without which some degree of truth it wouldn't be funny. You're not a Con if you don't at least smile. If a conservative doesn’t like guns, they don’t buy one. If a liberal doesn’t like guns, then no one should have one.If a conservative is a vegetarian, they don’t eat meat. If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone. If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.If a conservative is homosexual, they quietly enjoy their life. If a liberal is homosexual, they loudly demand legislated respect. If a black man or Hispanic is conservative, they see themselves as independently successful. Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection. If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church. A liberal wants any mention of God or religion silenced. If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that his neighbors pay for his.

Cons vs Libs

I like these kind of jokes.
You know you're a conservative if...
...you think people should get on their bike and look for work, unless they cross a border in doing so.
...you think people should stand on their own two feet, unless they have a rich daddy.
...you think people should stand on their own two feet, unless they do so by joining trade unions.
...you believe in equality under the law, even though it's mostly your opponents who have achieved this.
...you think state authorities shouldn't intervene in markets, unless doing so would benefit your business or support share prices or house prices.
...you deplore youngsters' ignorance of history, but forget about primitive accumulation.
...you think a centrally planned economy is a bad idea but centrally planned companies are great.

CONSERVATIVE 4 LIFE!REPUBLICAN 4 LIFE!LOL that was pretty good actually. I started laughing actually

That was actually pretty funny. But I'm rather anti- Am Gov. So...

don't forget that odd contradiction that amuses and frightens... Conservatives believe that Liberals believe in too many individual rights, except when it comes to the individual right to have guns.It is funny, fucking hilarious... as an American, one has the right to bare arms but not the right healthcare. The giver of the bullet has rights, wile the recipient does not. thor, tell me, in a blunt, plain and cohesive statement, why should American people be granted the right to have firearms but not be granted the right to have guaranteed heath care?

The giver of the bullet has rights, wile the recipient does not. thor, tell me, in a blunt, plain and cohesive statement, why should American people be granted the right to have firearms but not be granted the right to have guaranteed heath care? Guns are there to protect ones self from a tyrannical government, as much as anything else. waves at ObamaHealth Care is part of taking care of yourself. Why don't you just add to that the requirement for the government to provide you with an income, a house, a big-screen TV and a servant to wipe your butt for you? Freedom, in this country, means the right to persue happiness...it doesn't mean the government taking care of you as if you're some kind of invalid. Part of the difference between a child and an adult is that an adult is responsible for taking care of his/her self...AND any children that are theirs. A child, well, is a child...and expects everything to be done for them. So...which are you?I'll refer you for further comment to this:The following has been attributed to State Rep Mitchell Aye from GA. This guy should run for President one day. "We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of No-Rights." ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything. ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc. but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be. ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful. Do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy. ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes. (This one is my pet peeve...get an education and go to work....don't expect everyone else to take care of you!) ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care. ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair. ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure. ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights. ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!!!!_________________________________________________________________I'll add to "Article XI" that you can always go someplace else...you don't have to stay here and try to spoil it for the rest of us. In fact, I'd prefer you go someplace else if you can't accept this country's history/heritage.

oh, I didn't realize that the 45 million Americans without health insurance were themselves at faultstupid, lazy fuckers. Why don't they just work harder?I presume you withhold the taxes you are expected to pay to support police and firemen because, like a good American, you can take care of yourself.

Spoken like a true liberal and a budding communist.
So, we should all have the right to have others pay for our "needs", yes? And who gets to determine what those "needs" are? Are you ready to give up your widescreen TV for others "needs" and health-care? WELL ARE YOU??? Maybe you just don't need it, do you.
The whole thing is a novel idea, except that it completely fails to take into account the greedy nature of human beings. Yeah, there are a lot of folks out there who are all for public healthcare...until they have to give something up in order for others folks to have it (which is what ultimately would be required). Communism also fails to take this into account...which is why it ultimately fails, every time.
If we could eliminate the sinful, greedy nature of human beings, I'd be all for public health-care...but if we could do that, we wouldn't really need public health-care, would we.

I think that needs are those things set out by the Declaration of Human Rights. Health, education and freedom from opression.

Thats true, but just because its expensive, it doesn't mean that it can't be offered to all at no personal cost to them. In most European countries, education is offered at no personal cost all the way up to college level. In Scotland, they offer free college tuition to any citizen of a European nation. It can be done, it is being done and it works. Scotland is not destroying itself by offering this necessity to people.

What percentage of their income do working people pay in taxes in the countries you're referring to? (I know that in the Netherlands its 90%, for starters.)

What? Where did you get that insane number from?? The Netherlands does indeed have a high tax rate on their income, but the maximum anyone pays is 52%, and thats only if you're earning over €54,000 a year. (Which considering the very low cost of living there, its quite a lot!)In the UK, income tax is about 15% and they have to fund the NHS and education. Here in Ireland its about 25%.

Its people like you that drive me insane about Obama. It has NOT been enough time to see what he can do. He has 8 years worth of crap to resolve thanks to Bush... do you really think he can accomplish EVERYTHING in the 8-9 months he's been president? lets get realist people. It might be 2 years before we see some drastic changes!

The reality often evades the statistics. For example, do you really believe that the unemployed in this country is still less than 10%? I sometimes forget you're not from here...but most anybody who is from here would immediately know the answer to that question. Stats can be made to show just about anything...depending on the agenda of the one who wants them.

Bush was bad...Obama is proving to be worse (to no surprise on my part). With all that's going on, what a monumental waste of taxpayer money. As if his "bailout plans" weren't bad enough.Ron Paul was not my first choice, but he would not have been half bad.

Stats? Who said anything about stats? I'm talking about laws here, government legislation. Something a little more reliable than what a group of folks say.

Something a little more reliable than what a group of folks say. You're not paying attention. I posted what folks there actually end up paying in taxes, in spite of what some official site says they do. The difference may be because the official "story" may be representative of only one kind of many possible different taxes that folks have to pay over there. You'd have to dig deeper to find out. But since 50% is a far cry from 90%, I'm going to side with what people actually living there have to tell me about their taxes, rather than what some government with an agenda to push is going to promote as facts. Only way you're going to know for sure is to go live over there for awhile and see what happens (assuming you can do that). Point is, it's way out of control.Oh...and BTW, the Netherlands is an extremely liberal nation.

Quote:From a group of folks who were born and raised there...visiting here for a time on a visa.It used to be a bit of a standard prank by Australians visiting the US to tell tall tales - the Americans knew so little about the rest of the world that so long as you kept a reasonably straight face they would believe anything. Perhaps the Dutch have taken up the practice. I think Americans know a lot more about the rest of the world than they used to, but obviously not all Americans. To compare the taxation rates of governments, it's important to look at taxes at all levels of government, and to include things like charges and import duties, since they are all paid for by the people some way or another. When that's done, the US is quite a high-taxing country on the world scale - surprising, considering how little is given back in social spending.
