Welcome to A2A, soccer6j.There does seem to be a connection between thongs and UTIs. By their nature, thongs eliminate panty lines by being tight fitting. This seems to contribute to recurrent STIs in two ways. 1. The tight fitting thong seems to be a superhighway that can move fecal matter from the anus to the vaginal area. 2. The softer tissues of the vaginal area are kept irritated by the close fitting material of the thong which may cause infections more easily if it is exposed to fecal material. You might want to try to limit wearing your thongs to special occasions and see if, by wearing softer and more loose fitting underwear, you are able to break the cycle.

@ browsing is exactly right. I have been a family nurse practioner since 1981' & I have noticed a correlation between patients that frequently wear thongs, and more frequent UTIs. If you can discontinue the thongs, that is an ideal solution. One suggestion to add to @ browsing's narrative: if you have a bowel movement when you are wearing a thong, please ensure the anal area is well cleansed before you pull up your panties. Baby wipes can be obtained in relatively small packages, & cleansing the anal area thoroughly may help reduce infection. You may feel that this is TMI, but frequent UTIs can result in permanent damage to,your urinary system.
Take care,
