Martial arts are a good sources of exercises but most focus on one thing. For example, Judo is all about fighting on the ground. Karate is all about fighting standing up. You could be a master blackbelt at karate & easily lose a fight to bigger, stronger grappler. In my years of bouncing I've seemed to learn through my experience that martial artists are some of the easiest cats to fight. They have a false sense of security.I highly doubt a few months training in martial art style is going to help you at all in a real fight. Another thing I've noticed is that martial artists practice certain moves in slow motion. They hardly ever practice in a real-life scenerio where the other guy is struggling & fighting against you. It makes things totally different. So In Summary, unless you're training in a mixed martial art with true-life fighting scenerios then no martial arts are only good for getting someone beat up at a bar.

Do you think it's a "real" fight when someone get punched in the face once and they both go their seperate ways?
-
Do you think in school fights they just punch each other in the face and then leave? What school do you go to, some Christian school?
-
Yeah, no. First of all fights get broken up pretty quick and they are pretty pussy, except two on one fights!
-
Well your school is obviously a lot different than mine. We don't have many fights here but when we do it's serious shit and it doesn't get broken up that fast because the administrators can't break through the crowd around watching that quick, which is good.

I have no martial art training what-so-ever & I have fought a lot of people who have. I have never lost a fight to a martial artist. In my personal experience they're a lot easier to handle to fight than an experienced street fighter. Unless you train in a mixed-martial art I wont have respect for you. Those type of fighters are one dimensional. I was a bouncer for a while, so I've had my experience.
Tae Kwon Do fighters can only fight standing up. Put them on the mat and an average wrestler/grappler will have his way with him. Again most martial artist have false sense of security.

I consider many martial arts to be showy and not proper for use in real situations. Although, as with almost everything, there are exceptions.I consider Jeet Kune Do to be the master of all martial arts. It is a fighting technique that contains bits and peices of over 20 martial arts. Dedicated to having no form, unlike many if not all conventional martial arts, it is designed to be used in real situations and real street fights. Unfortunately, Jeet Kune Do cannot be taught. As Bruce Lee once said, "I cannot teach you Jeet Kune Do, but I can show you what I've learned."If you're interested, you should look into the published books by Bruce Lee.

I dont think bruce lee would be the great fighter he was without martial arts so it must help
-
I deliberately said if you only take one martial art. Mixed martial arts are helpful. I've fought pussies & I've fought guys who were supposed to be bad. LOL a 17 year old, 6'2" kid wouldnt stand a chance. I dont care what martial art or arts you're takin. You dont have the experience.

There are great street fighters and there are great martial artists. If you are dedicated to either side then you will learn by observation and trial. There has always been an argument between strength and speed. If you were to put the fastest figter up against the strongest fighter and both having equal experience, who would win? The answer is indefinite. The best thing is to have a combination of both strength and speed.
