Okay, well, this is how it's been going for me. I'm 5'7", and I've been a vegan for about 2-3 months now. I've lost alot of weight, and now my parents say I've lost too much. My family is saying I'm scrawny, and I can't seem to hear the end of it from them! They insist I'm underweight, but I seriously think I'm average. All my friends weight about the same, and they all think the same thing as I do. I started out weight 177, but now I weigh 144. I think it might just be that they have a somewhat backwards way of thinking. I mean, they say guys can be too scrawny, and that they get made fun of, but I personaly havn't heard of any guy at school being too 'scrawny.' Every time to point out someone they think is at the proper weight, he's always a little chubby. So my question is, what exactly would be a healthy weight for someone like me (15, 5'7")? I've looked everywhere, and I can't find anything! Thanks guys.

What exactly is a healthy weight?!!

Well it depends on a variety of things bro. First off what body type are you? Are you bigger boned, medium, or small built? Or in between one of the two. If you're bigger boned (which really does exist although most people make it an excuse for being fat) 144 pounds is extremely small! A 5'7" in shape female would weigh about 130... However if you have a smaller build then 144 seems about right. If you're medium then you'd probably be a lil under weight but not bad.Another thing it depends on is what type of person are you. Are you an athlete? Are you more of a computer person? If you're an athlete then I would think you would be under weight. If you dont do much but sit around then you're probably alright.Another thing was your 177 pounds solid? Or was it fat? If you were a pretty muscular 177 then most people would think you looked scrawny because you lost a lot of your muscle mass.At 15 years old you're still a lil young. You prolly have some more growing to do. But man why in the crap did you stop eating meat? That causes all kinda problems. You need to get some meat in ya while you growing. But of course I'm biased I geuss becuase I dont know why anyone would stop eating meat...

Well, the 177 before wasn't solid, it was all fat, lol. I never used to work out before or anything, so any muscle I had was just natural muscle I got from daily activities, as is the muscle I have now. I'm not really an athlete or a computer person. I don't spend all day on the computer or watching TV. I jog 2 miles every day, but I don't have time to do much more since I go to a school for the arts and future business professionals, so they bombard us with homework. I was a little suspicious about the lack of meat before, but I read up on it, and even unbiased sources (doctors that do eat meat) say that it's extremely heatlhy, even for a growing person. But I suppose that's more of a debateable topic. Thanks for your reply!

Here's a link to calculate your BMI (body mass index). http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htmAccording to this BMI calculator, your BMI is totally normal (22.6, with the normal range being 18 to 24); you were overweight before. Your parents are probably just worried because you've lost so much weight so fast. As long as you feel healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. 5'7" and 144 pounds doesn't sound outrageously skinny to me. It sounds about normal, especially for a vegan, since we tend to be a little smaller.
