I'm 17, about to be 18 in a few days, (3 to be exact), and I would like to lose a little weight by May. (May is when Prom and my graduation takes place) I'm 5'2'' and weigh around 138 lbs. Is this average? Even so, what's the best/ fastest way I can lose at least 10 lbs. and tone up a bit? I don't think I'm fat or ugly, I just want to be more healthy and fit.

5'2" 138 might be a lil over average but definately nothing to worry about. But dont worry with a lil dedication you can easily lose 10 pounds within that time period. That's almost 7 months away. You could easily lose 10 pounds in that time. You prolly wouldnt have a problem losing 20 pounds in 7 months, but you'd haveta be dedicated.Websex touched on a lot of things, but I'll touch on the rest. You should eat about 5 very SMALL meals a day. When I say small thats what I mean. A good rule of thumb is only half of what you would normally eat at a sitting. Eating like this will do two things: shrink your stomach & speed up your metabolizm - both very helpful for losing weight & keeping it off.OK, first step is your diet. NO carbonated drinks (coke sprite pepsi doctor pepper, etc). NO candy or sweets (cake icecream potato chips, etc). No fast food & no fried foods. Eat most of your carbs in the morning & keep them to a MINIMUM after 3:00pm and under no circumstances should you take in carbs after 6:00pm! Eat a lot of vegetables and lean meats. Basically check the food lables you eat. Carbs are fine, but make sure they come from a healthy source (vegetables) and you dont take in too many after the certain times. If you're eating food with fat make sure it's unsaturated fats. DO NOT EAT foods high in Saturated Fats!OK, now time for the working out. This will be the main part of your routine. You have to exercise. We have 7 months, so we have plenty of time to get to your goal. Start off SLOW. Say maybe cardio for 30 minutes a day 3 times a week. Once you get used to that, move it up to 45minutes a day still 3x a week. Once you get used to that, up it to 45mins 4x a week. Another words keep workin up until you're doing cardio 6 times a week 45 minutes each session. You should be able to work your way up to this intensity within 2 months. Cardio can be anything from running, bicylcing, cardio bike, jogging, aerobic sessions, etc etc.OK, now some closing tips & suggestions:Set you up a "free day" once every 2 weeks where you can eat whatever you want. HOWEVER, keep your limits on. Another words still eat small meals just you're free to eat what you want. Go grab some ice cream & fries. This will help keep you sane while you diet.Be active even when you dont have to be. If you have a choice to go with a friend and play sports or go with another friend and watch a movie - chose the sports route. If you have some free time, dont sit down and watch TV. Go do something. Talk a walk outside. Help your mom do some of the chores, etc etc. Basically you wanna keep as active as possible so you're metabolism will speed up.If you need anymore help let me know.
