- Oral HPV, how prevalent is it? Is there anyone on this forum that has it. I have heard it is rare, but exists.2. I have read several places that the immune system will, or can "beat" the virus. The articles said that people were tested positive and then in a period of 6 months to 2 years up to 54% were tested negative. My GF asked her Dr. and he said this is not true, even though I read formal studies on it. He also said there were no "tests" for HPV. Obviously I am getting conflicting results. I claim to know a good bit about this, but it just appears there is so much that is unknown with this virus. Any news/ideas?3. Immunization for it. I also read they are working on a shot like for the flu/Hep A/B. Any news on this?Any replies will help me. Thanks

I don't have it but a girlfriend of mine does and she was told once you have a virus, you can never get rid of it. However, you may not ever get visual symptoms again.

That's only true of a few viruses, ones that insert themselves into cellular DNA. HSV (which causes herpes) is one of those, but I don't think HPV (which causes warts) is, though it certainly hangs around for a long time.
