Just a general question. What causes them? Does anyone have any tips on how to rid of them? I've found that taking pain-killers don't always work for me.

Menstrual Cramps
-
Menstrual cramps are forms of the muscle contractions that help push a baby out at childbirth. They are caused by the hormone changes at your period. One treatment that is often very effective is the oral contraceptive pill. My wife went on it long before she needed it for contracetion for just that reason, and it made a magical difference.

Two things helped me. (Note I had to go home from school when I would get them they were so bad.) The pill. It made them almost nothing. Having a baby. I rarely have even a twinge now.

masturbate. an orgasm will uncramp the muscles. i realize masturbating probably isn't on the top ten list when you have cramps, but try it. a vibrator helps...even if you're not in the mood, with a vibe you kinda don't have a choice

after 8 years of suffering with mentrual craps... I have found a way to get rid of them...It works for me... you should try it!what you do is this:When you get your period... the first drop of blood comes out of your body... TAKE PAIN MEDICATION such as Midol. DO NOT WAIT for the pain to kick in! Take it before it comes.Then... after a few hours the medication will stop working and you MIGHT feel disconfort... you simply take it again. It works soooo well for me... I have gone 6 months without any pain at all. Try it!

Ok... who the hell in their "ok" state of mind would want to get off while feeling sick, painful cramping? Um... I think i'd prefere to take some midol than finger my "bloody dying of pain" self.

Yeah masturbating can work wonders on cramps...plus orgasms during your period can prevent endometriosis
