hi, I have had a problem for some time now....i havent had any periods since february 2004. i first started my perid when i was 13 and im know 16 (almost 17). I am always irregular (like i'll go 3 months, or 8 months w/o a period)...so recently i went to see a gynosologist about my problemo. he exammined me and took a PAP smear. (btw im not sexually active at all) anywho he told me to come back in a month for an ultrasound. He did that and he said i have a few extra cysts on my ovaries than normal (women make cysts before the egg drops from the ovum). the weird thing is that a couple of days later i had a period. i think he knocked something loose lol..i had a very small amount of regular blood but i have had a shit load of old blood (brown) blood like sluffing off. I got my ultrasound almost a month ago and i am still getting the brown old blood in my underwear. I am very perinoid and i don't know if this is normal. I think i might be in pre-menopause or somthing.....can someone help me out in what they think? thanx

No period

I've had the same problem going for several months without periods. I too had the ultrasound done many of times along with a transvaginal exam. Sometimes after a pap smear or transvaginal exam you can bleed a litte. A month later is a little unusual though. Have you been back to the doctor since? Has the doctor talked about the birth control pill at all? That normally fixes the problem.

go on the pill.
seriously - i was like that for a while (also had several cysts) and it regulates your period. i've been like clockwork since. and you can get pills that are low hormone levels. (orth-trycy.low)
sounds like the lining hasnt been shed. and that would account for the 'old' blood. if there's a good bit of it - you could use a 'light' tampon with no worries. -
he mentioned the pill but he says it would be better for me to wait it out and see if i have one, he doesnt want to stop ovulating altogether. also my mom doesnt think it is a good idea to stop ovulating....i'm also scared because in my family we have birth complications, what i mean is my mom had a histerectomy at the age of 27, after she had me. my mom, grandma, and great grandma have had hysterectomies... i dunno...all i got is time to see if i get a period. i hope it wont be as hard having a baby as my mom had a hard time. she had hormonal shots and everything trying to get preg. for five years. after my brother.

Well if you're not getting your period then you're not really ovulating to begin with. This doctor sounds like a quack. Birth control helps regulate hormones and helps reduce or elimate cysts.
-
Do you have really low body fat?
-
i have really high body fat. my bmi is 46.1. My whole family is obese. my regular doctor told me it might be becuase my hormones are confused from the fat. but i know girls way bigger than me and they have regular periods. i dunno

It probably most likely is hormonal. Try the birth control pill out. It regulates everything. Like I said before, if you're not having your period you're not ovulating.

thank you guys for taking time out to help me out..i appreciate it i will ask my mom about it and i have an appointment for the gyno doctor. its in 3 months, he's one of the main gyno doctors in town and it takes a couple of months to get in but okie dokie

Go see your regular doctor. You don't need to see a gyno for birth control. I've had more luck with female problems with my regular doctor than with my gyno.
