Gah, Abortion, dont get me started. I am a firm Pro-life supporter. The only arguement that my friends (all pro-choice except a few) have given me is rape and "people are gonna do it with coat hangers anyways". Im sorry, those two arguements don't relly support that abortion should be legal if those are the only reasons.

A call to political action

As far as the welfare reforms, I honestly don't know the full state of current legal requirements, so I can't make much of an intelligent comment on your proposals. I guess I would still worry about the children of those individuals, but I concede that someone who perpetually denies open job opportunities is a major problem for the welfare system.
It seems reasonable to set limits on how many job opportunities they can turn down.Electable Justices? Wow, that would change our legal landscape pretty drastically. Yes, it's problematic that the Judiciary is non-democratic, but one might also relish the stability inherent to a legal system somewhat insulated from the political process (not totally insulated, of course).
Abortion? Without opening the floodgates, I can say that those are not the only two arguments, nor are they necessarily the primary arguments. The pro-choice argument most often centers upon the liberty of the woman.
-
liberty of the woman? while giving none to the child that HER activities led to, its called consequences, if you cant take the consequences, then dont have a dick in you. I just feel that way. If you cant handle the responsibility of the child then you are not ready for a dick.

In reply to: marriage is love yet you're pro choice... by saying marriage is love, are you saying that you shouldn't have sex unitl you're married? and if that's so, then wouldn't that cause you to be pro choice? no, silly goose. its a gays right to marriage slogan. marriage is love, not your gender. get it?and yes i am pro choice.

Off course, your characterization also begs the question of when a fetus becomes a "child." This is by no means a topic on which all people agree. Saying the fetus has rights presupposes that the fetus is already a person.Furthermore, we don't always assign full responsibility to someone for accidents created by their risky behavior. It's easy enough for people to say "she took the risk by having sex," but would you assign the same degree of responsibility to a person who runs over a child darting into the street? Even if they were driving extremely carefully (not all pregnancies result from carelessness- lightening strikes when you least expect it)? Recall that every time you drive your car, you assume the risk of hitting a careless pedestrian (or fellow driver). Perhaps the moral quality society assigns sexual behavior (particularly with regards to women) leads people to conclude "she deserves the consequences" when they wouldn't typically reach such a harsh conclusion for other, similar mistakes. It’s notable that people aren’t typically so harsh towards the male partner (surely an equal accomplice)—no one accuses males of murder for having sex with women that they could reasonably expect would have an abortion. Anyway, I'm not making a conclusive statement about responsibility, but I think the typically harsh response towards mistakenly pregnant women merits a second thought (particularly when they're young and potentially ignorant or irational).
-
yep sexpot, sorry.very well put post steppen.
-
You were responding to me, and yes I guess I am a silly goose. haha.Well, a women's liberty argument can be used for the baby too. IMO, a baby should have, as the constitution puts it, 'inalienable rights'. And those rights should be acquired as soon as conception.

Well, since I won't be able to vote this time around thanks to the 6 month rule flips that rule off... I got angered. Lol. Oh well. Me thinks I will stay in NY long enough for Hilary's next campaign... if she runs for Senator again... I'll just vote against her... she runs for President... I will campaign against her but not for any particular candidate. Oh... and if I was allowed to vote this election... it would probably be for Kerry.
-
I overlooked this and never replied to it In reply to: In modern times, the electors always vote for the candidate with the majority of votes in a state There is no Constitutional provision or Federal law requiring electors to vote in accordance with the popular vote in their States. But some state laws require electors to cast their votes according to the popular vote and provide that so-called "faithless electors" may be subject to fines or may be disqualified for casting an invalid vote and be replaced by a substitute electe. Yet, these are only certain states, and incidents where the popular vote of the state wanted a person as president and the representative voted for the other still exists.
-
What i don't get is whats the point of voting is your electoral votes may go to the other guy even if your guy was the winner. We always get told we can make a difference but with the electoral college it doesn't seem like we can.
-
lmao. That's what I was saying ealier in the thread. The people of the united states technically don't vote for president because of the electoral college. Don't get me wrong, I think the electoral college is necessary, it just needs some tweaking. During the time of the framers of the Constitution, the common people were, for lack of a better term, dumb. They just didn't know much about politics. And so they made the electoral college which they hoped would consist of people that were more educated. Back in that day, the popular vote was basically a trick to make people think they had power in deciding who would become president and also a successful attempt by the federalists to satisfy the confederate supporters.

Steppenwolf, you seem a bit pretentious throwing around all this political hogwash. It's all been said before. You are sounding a lot like an 8th grader that just started the economy unit in their social studies class. I don't mean to offend. It just all seems a bit, hmm, odd...
-
Are you saying political debate is for 8th graders?

Ha Sabryn... it's people like you that make me sick. Lol. My 17 year old cousin just had a 'bouncing baby boy.' Now take this to mind... she lives in a cockroach infested trailer... epitome of trailer trash... the thing is falling apart but she feels that this would be the perfect place to raise her little family with her illegal immigrant boyfriend. Baby boy was born about two months ago, and ALREADY has both eyes filled with infections... one out of which he cannot see out of. He is malnurished, and the baby probably would never have seen a doctor but a coroner... EXCEPT if my grandparents hadn't called the State on her... she NEVER would have given that baby up without a warrant for it. That baby would have died without being taken away. Never had a chance if the grandparents didnt call the state. Now get this... the other half of the grandparents (grandma and grandpa divorced, remarried) are actually thinking about fighting this thing in court... now if you want a child to grow up like this... go ahead... I personally feel bad and probably would take in the child if A i was old enough B if I could support it and C if I had a significant other... the only thing that allowed this baby to live was the grandparents... otherwise it would have suffered indefinately being malnurished etc etc. The baby probably also has other problems that I don't know of seeing as how we only hear what we are told. My cousin smoked ciggies and weed during her pregnancy, and drank like a sailor during pregnancy...The weakest arguement that anyone can have is: but it says in the Bible waa waa waa. Rape... that is such a small portion of all Abortions... that doesn't make abortion any less imprtant... and yes people are going to do it with coat hangers in the back alley ways and throw themselves down the stairs... but then again the 'firm pro-life supporters' generally believe in 'late term abortion' you know... the ones where they go and shoot an abortion clinic doctor... whats the difference between one killing and another... there really isnt any... and if you believe in pro-life and pro death penalty (which sabryn has claimed on several occasions)... what the hell is the difference? one is before birth... one is after birth... late term abortion vs abortion abortion... those are tech contradicting statements... doesnt make sense. And the fact that your friends blah blah blah... is bullshit... I've told you about the cousin before, and you were like 'just force her to give the baby away'... well what about all the problems that her heavy smoking and drinking caused during pregnancy... or the second hand shit he got fot that first month... or the uncaringness of her towards his eyes...My aunt had an abortion. Not for reasons that you figure. They wanted a child. They tried REPEATEDLY to have a child. Yet if the child that they first concieved was born, it would have been still born... you ban abortion .. these stillborns are just going to be lead on 'thinking they have a chance' when in reality once they are born.. poof byebye. My proposal for new legislation is definately to ban abortion. I think that for women that don't want children, they can do one of three things. Go back to the old methods... coat hangers... down the stairs... but for something state run... we should start taking the babys out of the womb and seeing if they can live alone. as they are 'already human once the sperm and egg conjoin', they should be allowed to see if they can live outside of the mother... survival of the fittest ya know... what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.
-
You're an idiot. My opinion.
-
Now why am I an idiot... and if you refer to the last paragraph... I was being sarcastic... I personally think that that is a horrible way to deal with a serious problem. And calling me an idiot shows how 'cool' you are. :scream_cat:
-
So obviously you don't believe in any contraceptives... sponge (if they make em... saw seinfeld.. lol elaine),, diapharm... condom... spermicide... etc etc?
-
Nope, I'm not trying to prove anything. I just think you're an idiot. I personally don't care about how 'cool' people think I am and I recognize sarcasm when I see it.And I'm not getting into this debate with you because I would end up writing a book. Despite all my efforts, the view and perspective you have assumed most likely will not change. So I'm just not getting into it.

Moving on to a different subject, a muslim man is running for state legislature in Georgia. The media is having a hay day with this story. Any thoughts?
-
Personal attack on me!!! Whoopie. As you people can see i know this douche bag . Basically if you say if the baby is a human once sperm and egg join then you are commiting murder when abortion is done. Is murder legal in this country? No. Its funny that say your climbing a mountain and you accidently crack a bald eagles egg, then u get a hefty fine if caught. What if you kill a baby? Naw, that aint a crime and you get paid for it. I love how you said you want to choose to take that baby out of the world for its own good. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TO CHOOSE WHO LIVES AND DIES?! How do you know that child wont grow up and have a wonderful life.Death Penalty - No I don't support the death penalty. I would support it if it were more strict. I believe the death penalty must be excrutiating and painful like fuck. Ever seen the passion of christ. YEEEA lets do to the murdering like they did to Jesus. Then i think we would see drastic drops in murder. HA. I know this wouldnt be legal because of the banning on cruel and unusal punishment. But i feel that if you are cruel enough to murder you dont deserve a quick death.Last night Skeleton went as far as to call a baby a parasite. Take it out and it wont survive. LOL okay say your actually conceived, can you survive? no! okay lets abort every child because if you bring it into the world because it will have a horrible life due to the fact that it can not survive on its own. ITS JUST A PARASITE!! O yea, regarding parasites, your technically a parasite until the age of 18. Skeleton, if your parents kicked you out of the house at any age from 16 and under, i bet u wouldnt live over a month. Jeeez i doubt it still now.My theory is, if you can't handle the consequences of a baby, then you should not be having sex. If you do not have enough common sense to use both a condom and birth control. Then you dont deserve to have sex.Only instances where i think abortion should be legal is when the baby has no chance at survival or is just going to be born dead anyway. Regarding coathangers, good go do it illegally where youll most likely end up dead. YES one less pro-choice hahaWere not in an era where this country is dominated by religion so who gives a fuck about the bible when it comes to politics. Its not going to get you anywhere::gets ready for a flaming::
