This is an email I just sent out to my friends... I was hoping some of you would read it and become aware that you need help for your addictions and that others would say a prayer (if that is in your beliefs) or at least a warm thought in my brother's direction...Hi everyone,I just wanted to ask a favor from all of you. I would like for you to say a prayer for me. This past weekend my younger brother, Randy, who is almost eighteen nearly killed himself. Randy has been battling drug and alcohol abuse since he was about 14. He's had a lot of problems with the law in the past and recently we thought he was doing pretty well. He moved back home and received a student of the week award at school and was doing well at his new job. While on a break at work on Saturday, he apparently snorted a very large dose of a drug called Xanax. He collapsed and appeared unconscious and his manager called an ambulance. My mom rushed to meet them at the emergency room. After reviving him and admitting him to intensive care, tests showed that Randy had sustained some brain damage. It appeared that he has overdosed on drugs a minimum of three times. He does not have any short term memory at this point. They don't know at this time if the damage is permanent. He's home today and is going to be admitted to rehab very shortly. It will be very expensive ($40,000-$60,000) and my parents have to refinance their home to pay for it. Randy can't be left alone at all because he is very ill from withdrawal symptoms and keeps freaking because he doesn't know what's going on. He had every street drug in his system except heroine including coke, crack, acid, etc. He claimed he was getting high at least four times a day to battle his withdrawal. This morning my mom called my grandma to come watch Randy while she showered. Apparently Randy asked Gram for a drink, and when she returned with it he asked her when she had got there.... He didn't recall her being there and asking her for a drink only a few moments prior. I'm just finding out all of this today after I called to check on everyone since I haven't heard anything from anyone in a few days. They didn't want to tell me until they had to because they didn't want me to stress or worry since I've been working 75+ hours a week and have an excess of stress and problems myself. (Some of my friends have tragedies and drama going on as well.) So, anyway, please keep Randy and my family in your prayers so that they may manage to get through this time. Thanks everyone.Lots of love,Carrie
