A few people who had the experience of taking borth control pills says it may have negative effects, like gaining weight, or losing weight, rapid heart beat and for some, growing of pimples on their face, although there are some that says it helps to reduce pimples and other skin problems. Is there anyone here that uses oral contraceptives that can confirm those effects? What was the effect of it to you personally?

It made me nauseated for a couple weeks... which is completely common. It goes away. It actually clears up people's compelexions, not the opposite. It has many, many more pros than cons.... Lighter, shorter, less painful periods, etc. I gained a little weight, but that may just be from getting older and the metabolism slowing, I'm not sure. When people gain weight from birth control, it's not a ton, more like five lbs... What's worse, gaining five lbs. from b.c. or fifty with a kid?

I was nauseous(spelled it wrong ) for the first few weeks, and I did spot for about two months. It wasn't everyday, and then it was only a little spot. My periods are extremely lighter and shorter now too. I agree that the benefits far outweigh the costs.

i've been on one pill or another for almost ten years - and had ONE sideeffect ONE time. i got a blood clot this past summer. partly my fault b/c i was smoking while on the pill - they are very very painful, can be fatal and can also leave lasting damage (ie - the big toe on that leg will NEVER have feeling in it again) - so b/c of that and to give my body a break i'll be usuing only condoms for a while. also b/c i had that - i CANNOT use the patch or shot EVER b/c the hormones are too high in it. and once i've had one clot - i'm at a higher risk for more.

yeah the most common thing in taking b/c is nausea and with mine i had irregular periods for the first 2 or 3 months but it is completely normal when you go to the doctor just ask them for the brochures (spelling) on the different b/c's and they will tell you the most common side effects and explain everything about each one most of the side effect are the same though im on ortho-tricyclin-lo and if i may say its been pretty good for me considering side effects and all but im sure all b/c are pretty much the same, and i agree with boodiddle on the weight thing.

oh and i forgot to include that my periods are also lighter and shorter too. just incase it helps about that particular pill!

Why are there different kinds of pills?
-
Because every woman is different, some contain more or less hormones than others
-
and different kinds and combinations of hormonesI was on one before that was wrong for me and I had hot flashes, mood swings, cried a lot, etc. I got put on a low hormone pill and everything is great!
