I know there are probably a million of these posts, but I searched through a couple pages and didn't find anything.I'm only asking this question because I think I have it and my parrents are so sure that I don't that they wont get me tested for it. I'm 15 now and I've though I've had A.D.D. since about 8.Anyways I get good grades in school, and I'm not any more hyper than the average student is. I have no problem memorizing things. The problem is I have to put a great deal of effort into paying attention. I have to repeat everything the teacher says to myself to keep my attention. And even then I can still only pay attention for maybe 15 minutes before I start thinking about something else, and after that happens no matter what I do I can't refocus. I'm also very forgetful. I can never remember what time I have practice or if I have homework, I always have to ask someone else. Out of the symptoms that I read, here is what I have:I often fail to give close attention to details and make careless mistakes all the time.I often have difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities, but if I try very hard to focus I can usualy pay attention for about 15 minutes.I often do not seem to listen when spoken to directly. My friends and teachers tell me this regularly. This is probably the biggest problem that I have.I don't have problems finishing tasks or organizing, at least to my knowing.I don't avoid engaging in tasks that require sustained mental effort.I often lose things necessary for tasks and activities.I am often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli.I am often forgetful in daily activities. The only reason I would think that I don't have it is because if I try to focus then it normaly isn't much of a problem. But if I don't I wont hear a word you are saying. I don't think the average person has to force themselfs to pay attention, I think for most people it just comes naturaly, but for me it's different. So can anyone tell me if I have it or not?

Do I have a.d.d.?
-
I read that page. I was saying that those are the symptoms of what it says that I have and I do not have. The main point of my post was to say that I have most/all the symptoms for a.d.d. I don't know if I have it though because I can focus for long periods of time it just takes a lot of effort and will not happen naturaly. Naturaly if someone talks to me I don't listen to anything they are saying. Is this how it is with everyone?

Same here... But I also tune out people sometimes too. lol.

I don’t believe in ADD, it’s something drug companies made up to sell drugs. Lazy teachers describe problem kids (normal active boys?) as having ADD so that they’ll be prescribed drugs and that way they don’t have to deal with disciplinary problems.
-
well belive what you want but i am an adult living with ADD and i can say it is somthing real
-
my mom is a nurse...ADHD IS FAKE!!!It is usually an excuse for parents that cant controll their kids or kids that are craved for more attention...Dont worry...you cant have adhd since IT DOESNT EXIST!!!!
-
It does exist.
-
how can you say it is fake, when it is a proven medical illness?
-
Where is it proven?
-
What do you mean by "it's fake"? I'm sorry but I've had to live with ADHD all of my life and it's not easy. ADD/ADHD is real, and unless you have it you'll never understand what it's like living with it.
-
Do you have any idea how much money is made off of ADD by pharmaceutical companies? How many kids are growing up while under the influence of drugs to counter ADD? I can’t imagine growing up while subjected to the drugs these kids are now. You got a fucking normal boy who has a hard time siting still for a one hour class and what, you him give drugs? We got a whole generation of kids raised on drugs to counter act ADD. This is some fucked up shit that going to back to haunt us.

I disagree. Just because someone earns money from one thing does not necessarily make it false. Look at flu vaccine and other items. ADD is very much possible. Wasn't it proven it had something to do with chemical imbalance in the mind? I'll go search for an article

Not all people take medication for ADD/ADHD. Some people deal with the disorder on their own, which I happen to do. I was on meds when I was younger but my parents took me off becuase it made me stay up all night and I was like a zombie, so taking the meds wasn't for me. Medication isn't for everyone, and not everyone needs to use it for ADD/ADHD. I deal with this disorder everyday of my life and it's hard as hell, but I still do it. Just because someone has ADD/ADHD doesn't mean they have to be put on medication because not everyone with this disorder needs it. Boy I sound redundant lol Oh well ^_^
-
Yeah it has to do with certain functions and chemicals...Not too sure what, but I could look up some stuff and find out.

Oh yer watch out for the big a.d.d conspiracy. My friend has a.d.d and I am pretty sure it's an illness and you saying that is probably quite insulting to people who do have a.d.d. My friend just can't concentrate on ANYTHING and is like always moving around and can't sit still. You saying that A.D.D isn't real is one of the DUMBEST things I have ever heard. There is so much evidence pointing to a.d.d being real and none pointing to it being fake. Half the people with A.D.D don't even take the drugs because most of them would rather not. And as for "kids misbehaving in class" yeah because everyone with a.d.d is a school kid who misbehaves in class (sarcasm). Just because someone has a.d.d doesn't mean they would be disruptive FFS. There is SOOOOO much that doesnt make sense with what youre saying youre just sounding stupid and pissing people with a.d.d off. So think before you post.

maybe you should start looking at the dates of some of these threads before you reply
