Please help me with my massive computer problems!!
-
yea i know reformating would fix it...but i dont have the cd handy(i am on my parents friends comp and he owns the comp and the win98se...i could bring a win98se over from my other house)and it is way to much of a hassle...all of the computers that i have ever touched have crashed (they hate me) i wish i wasnt cursed when it comes to computers...my parents friend who always fixes my comp told me last time was the last time he would do it so i went out and bought a version of win98se for myself $50 on ebay...My dads comp crashed...so i needed it anyway...and his computer partly reformated itself so we couldnt go into my computer or download anything or make a boot disk so we could reinstall windows 98....so i had to go to my friends to get a boot disk and then reinstall it.....

highjackers can destroy your system and reinstalling will overwrite and fix windows.
-
if i just put in the disk and do "repair" will it delete any of my stuff or will it just all stay???
-
??????
-
you should lose nothing, i never did and have done it a few times.
-
will i need a boot disk???or just click on setup in the cd???
-
A windows 98 cd is a boot disk. You may have to go into bios and reset the boot sequence though. Depending on the type of system (dell, compaq, ibm, etc) you have to hit a key while it's booting up (f2, f8, f10, f12, delete).
Maybe you could take a class. It will come in handy.
This is what I would do....
Boot off of your windows 98se cd. select install a fresh copy. delete all partitions. create on new(raw) partition. pick this new partition to load windows on. pick the NTFS file format. -
just don't uninstall windows LOL, windows will simply overwrite any damaged files and keep current ones on.
-
what i am trying to say is do you have to be in ms-dos???
-
so just run setup while i am logged into windows on my computer run setup off the cd???
-
A "repair" will replace existing SYSTEM files and add any missing SYSTEM files. Things like music, word documents, things like that aren't SYSTEM files.
-
No No Doss, just insert cd and reinstall, you do not need to reformat anything.
-
ok...i think i will do that...i will have to wait until next week to do this though...my win98se is at my other house...and i have surgery next wednesday...=(
-
i'd just throw the thing out the window
-
but if i threw it out the window...i wouldnt even be able to talk to you guys and get help...then i would have to get help on how to put my computer back together...
-
I usually do a system repair by turning off the computer and booting off of the CD. It will bring you to a blue screen that does... kinda... resemble dos.
-
can you boot off the CD with win98se???i wasnt able to last time i tried...maybe thats because i went from windows me to windows 98 se...
-
hey does anyone know what a good system setup would be to have a non-laggy game of rome total war???mine is really laggy...
-
yes, you can boot off of any OS cd such as win98se. You may have to adjust the boot sequence though. In reply to: A windows 98 cd is a boot disk.
