Read:
Malachy McCourt, History of Ireland
Nathaniel Harris, Heritage of Ireland: A History of Ireland & Its PeopleThere's a new book out about how Ireland's economy is kicking butt, but I can't find it.
Frank McCort (Angela's Ashes) hosted "Night Line" (for the Americans) last night. He was contrasting modern Ireland (affluent) with his neighborhood while growing up (very, very poor).
People used to have to leave Ireland to find a decent job. Now people are coming from all over the world to get some of the jobs that Ireland is having trouble filling.
Definitely time for celebration in the green country. But don't become too American.

In reply to:
But don't become too American.
Ha... ha ha... ha ha ha...
Oh, if you're looking for a book about the Irish economy, search for the Celtic Tiger, its the system that has boosted our economy since the 80s. Thats probably is what that book is all about.
And who the hell doesn't know about Paddy's Day!?!?! St.Patrick's Day!!!!
-
I have a grimm confession.... I had a great, great grandma who was both Irish and Catholic!!! what a scandal!I still have relatives in England that would die before admitting it but I've come to terms with it.cheers
-
Obviously you are not very well educated. All of the troubles between Cats and Penguins is in Northern Ireland. In the Eire and England there isn't tension or troubles caused by religious difference, atleast between Cs and Ps.
-
you must be kidding!!my Mom still has horror stories about bumping into C kids in the streets of Blyth. If my grandma new that I married a German/Irish Catholic (born in the US) she's be rolling in her grave!!!!!
-
That was YEARS ago! Nowadays the only people who give a shit are Sinn Féin and their IRA dogs!
-
that's actually good to hear!I'm just worried that if the IRA raises their heads, Bush will invade"war on terror" (unless the terrorists are white)oooops, did I say that out loud?
-
Oh please, Bush isn't invading places based on colour... he hasn't learnt all of the colours yet! He's still on yellow. Oh, and Bush has already expressed his view on the IRA, he refused to meet with Gerry Adams, leader of Sinn Féin!!!
-
In reply to: he refused to meet with Gerry Adams, leader of Sinn Féin!!! I guess that showed'em!who needs bombs when you can be snubbed by a moron. Gerry must be crushed
-
Oh he was, he broke down crying on Q&A, Irelands best (and only) political program. Oh, these recent IRA murders and bank robberies are not doing them much good! especially when the gobshites steal Northern notes that can't be used outside of the UK or Ireland!
-
I'll happily trade some Candain Tire Money for thos Northern Notes
-
Yeah, that whole pinching thing isn't Irish at all! Just some stupid American excuse to hurt each other, and possibley to tweak nipples. You should have bust a cap in that guys ass!!!
-

-
You "Irish" Irish or are you "my aunty's friend's gardener has an Irish setter" Irish?
-
im 1/4 Scot- Irish to get technical and 1/4 Englishand 1/2 Russian
-
I used to have a button that said "kiss me, I'm not" that I used to like to wear. I also used to wear orange on Paddy's day but I've become much less nasty in my old age
-
Well, orange ain't too bad. The Irish flag is Green White and Orange so, I'll just take it as being proud of your tiny Irish heritage, and not as support for any loyalists.
