Are you also doing things like practicing scales and chords? And exercises to make you fingers move faster?

If you can do an F, you're in pretty good shape. Can you do barre chords?
You ought to go to the music or book store and get a practice book. It'll have drills on scales and chord chages. You need to learn things like the major and pentatonic scales as a start. The idea is to get to know this stuff without having to think about where your fingers are going.

yeah barre cords are very easy...
-
Well, maybe on an electric. I found them to be a bit of a bear on an acoustic.
-
even on acoustic...i mean if i hold one chord for a long time it is hard, but not that bad.
-
True, especially if the acoustic has high action or heavy strings...but if you practice a lot, your left hand will become strong. Practice on the guitar, I mean.If I skip a week or so practicing, it becomes very hard to do barre chords for a long time...even on an electric.
