Not as rich as Microsoft, but richer than most. But they would claim that it's not for anyone's personal gain.

RIP da pope
-
Ding, dong, the witch is dead......
-
The Pope did not like communists.
-
In reply to: That makes no sense at all, dipshit. It means I didn't like him and I'm glad he's dead.
-
Did the Pope ever say anything about the Magdalen Asylums?Did the Catholic church in Ireland imprison wayward girls?"He that is good with a hammer tends to think everything is a nail." -Abraham H. Maslow

Leave AverageJoe alone! Do you have to start trouble with everyone? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
-
I'm sure AverageJoe can take care of himself. Thought and introspection are not sins. And the world is not just one big hug-fest.
Do you have anything to add on the topic of the thread, which is the death of Pope John Paul II? -
well I hate to add to the pope "bashing", but I really didn't like him. I feel sorrow for those that loved him, and hope he rests in peace, but for christ's sake, this dude was not Jesus. People kneel down to kiss his feet? wtf? stand outside his window for hours just to catch a glimpse of him waving? He was moving the church in a very conservative way, far more right than most of the laiety(sp) wanted.
-
well, most are hoping for a bit more progressive replacement. I would like to think it has little bearing on my life but you can't deny the pollitical clout the Vatican has so I guess it does affect everyone to some extent.
-
He was hard to pin down, politically. The liberals liked him because he was progressive on some issues, like the excesses of capitalism and world peace and bringing together people of different religions, and the religious conservatives liked him because he was unwilling to move an inch on church doctrine. Most new converts to Catholicism are coming from places like Africa, where the churches are very conservative. Mainstream Catholics in the U.S. are moving away from the Church, and Western Europe already has. The Catholic church is becoming less connected to the West. The Pope appointed a lot of cardinals, and they're pretty much all cut from the same conservative cloth. The Church will remain conservative for a long time to come.A lot of folks take issue with the way the Church handled the pedophile sex scandal (they handled it really poorly), but the Pope was already delegating a lot of responsibilities to others. He did promote Bernard Law, father of the Boston Priest Pedophile situation, to some position in the Vatican...a lot of Bostonians are still really unhappy about that.In fact, I'm surprised more wasn't mentioned about the pedophile priest scandal.

In reply to:most are hoping for a bit more progressive replacementMost Westerners, that is. Don't hold your breath.
-
WTF is a pope?
-
See how Ireland has changed in just a few short years? You'd have been put in an asylum for flirtatious women if you'd said something like that fifty years ago.
-
Because he knows everything. Leave him alone.
-
uhhh oh.....DING DING DINGRound One
-
Listen, little coward, it's easy to sound tough when you hide behind a make-believe screen name. What makes you such a hostile little boy?Now see if you can crank up your brain and post something useful, dumbass.
-
More empty threats, anonymous coward boy.So do you have anything relevant to say, or you just wasting space? Stalin would have known how to deal with you.
-
And you claim to be a historian? You see the little red rotating hammer?
-
ahhh, the sound of braying is so comforting
-
Would you like to join me in brayer?
So far it's been several days of wall-to-wall Vatican coverage on all the cable news networks. It's a good opportunity for the politicians to do something underhanded.
