Romania Three liaison officers arrived at CENTCOM on Dec. 10, 2001. One of them is working in the Coalition Intelligence Center. On Sept. 19, 2001, the Romanian Parliament approved basing and overflight permission for all U.S. and coalition partners. On April, 2002 the Romanian Parliament approved the deployment of a 405-person motorized infantry battalion, a 70-person NBC company, and 10 staff officers. During the period of June 30th – July 21st, 2002, Romanian Infantry Battalion deployed to Afghanistan and since 23rd July it started to be tasked. At the same time, Romania has deployed to Afghanistan a National Intelligence Cell, which will be integrated in OEF Intelligence structures, and will provide a daily INTSUM for CENTCOM. Also, 4 x Embedded staff personnel and 2 x LNO’s have been deployed and work in CJTF-180 Afghanistan Additionally, one Infantry Mountain Company, one Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Company (NBC), four MiG 21-Lancer, and medical personnel have been offered. For ISAF, Romania has deployed one Military Police Platoon, and one C-130 aircraft. Romanian Government has delivered a large quantity of training equipment for the Afghan National Guard. Romania has donated the following items in support of the Afghan National Army (ANA): 1,000 x AK-47 assault rifles, magazines and cleaning sets, 300,000 x 7.62mm rounds of ammunition, 15 x RPG-7, 8 x 7.62 PK Coy machine guns, 8 x M-37 82mm mortars, 148,720 x 7.62mm long rounds of ammunition, 148,800 x 7.62mm long blank, 8,800 x 7.62mm long tracers, and 90 x PG-7 AntiTank grenades. Romanian Government has decided to make a substantial donation consisting of cereals, stuff-food, clothes, tents etc to Afghan Government (the total amount of the donation is 3.2 million USD).
