Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian 10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours. 9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt. 8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God. 7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees! 6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky. 5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old. 4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving." 3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity. 2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God. 1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Top 10 signs you're a fundamental christian
-
Nice... I like it
-
that was a bit of oldfasioned fun!
Of course, missing is the belief that Jesus was the first blonde, white dude born in the middle east (miracle #1?) -
woohoo! i'm not a christian!

God's excrement is better in every way than the bonobo from whose loins you sprung, wicked heathen! You will be blown into the flaming brimstone of hell when He flatulates.

Okay guys, we all know you don't agree with the idea that there is a God, but there are people here that do. Can you please show some respect for their/my own beliefs?
-
I'm not sure what you mean by "respect", but I think very, very few people actually "respect" others' religious views. It's as true for a fundamentalist religious person as it is for a rabid atheist.
-
Yeah, but no one had made a thread devoted to the mockery of other religions/denominations...until this one. It's just a little disrespectful...
-
OK, how about a thread that critiques all religions, including atheism? If religious folks get out of the business of driving the U.S. goverrnment's morality agenda, and stop messing around with science education in schools, I'll shut right up. I'm talking about Christian fundamentalists here.
-
Well I'm sorry, but not all people bash other peoples religions. I don't care what someone else chooses to believe, if that is the way they want to believe more power to them. But I happen to believe in the trinity, I believe in God and his son, and I do take offence that people are more than willing to be disrespectful and degrade what I _choose_ to believe in. Have a little respect for people who do believe that way, don't belittle it, and don't belittle any other religion.
-
You believe in something false; a fantasy; something that makes you feel good, but has no basis in fact. It's not just saying that "I like blue, and if you like green, that's your opinion". It's saying , "2 plus 2 equals 5, you must respect me!".
It just interesting to explore why people have such beliefs.
If you believe, as fundamentalist Christians do, that everyone who doesn't believe as you do will spend eternity in fiery torment, than your idea of respect is full of baloney. You don't consider that "bashing"?
And if your brethren succeed in censoring the parts textbooks they don't like, then the U.S.'s economy will evolve to third world status. People will have plenty of time to sit in church, because there won't be any good jobs.

Steve's actually got a point there I think :PBut Steve, atheism is not a religion
-
In reply to:But Steve, atheism is not a religionThat's a philosophical question, but I have no deep feeling about it either way. You can take the atheistic position and say that God does not exist, but you can't technically prove it, so it's a religious belief...sort of.But on the other hand lots of absurd things can't be disproved. I can't prove that you're not God, or that the Pope didn't come from another planet. I don't believe those things to be true, but I can't prove them false either. If you want to argue something logically (through deductive reasoning), you have to prove that it's true. It really doesn't make sense to try to prove that something is false.
-
Well, maybe by book-definition of atheism it is kind of a religion (it's a stretch), but I'm pretty sure most people would agree that "not believing in religion is not a religion in itself" ... that kind of contradcits itself..
-
But atheism doesn't mean not believing in religion; it means not believing in God(s). You can believe in God, but not believe in any (defined) religion. Also, an atheist might not believe in God, but he have all kind of other irrational beliefs.

I think Diver should delete this thread. Because you're not making fun of ALL religions/denominations...you're poking fun at christians..specifically christians, and the author of this thread has a history of doing such things. A2A is not the place for threads such as these. This is not about freedom of this, or freedom of that, or the right to post this, or the right to post that. This openly mocks something that many people, myself included, take to heart. Their belief in God, the Trinity, and Jesus Christ as their Savior. This post was meant to offend. And that should not be tolerated.
-
In reply to:This post was meant to offend. Which is exactly why I'm staying out of it.
-
this topic has gotten to be the lamest most pathetic thing i hear about.. i hear about it EVERYWHERE just because i live in a more religious area.. all the "rebels" turn into satanists! Why can't everyone just be happy with what they are.. instead of talking shit about everyone elses religion.. cause it can seriously upset people.. who the hell cares if someone is a hardcore christian.. i think thats great.. ! I think somebody who has a strong belief in something is great..!
-
In reply to:I think somebody who has a strong belief in something is great..!The folks who took down the World Trade Center had a strong belief in something. What's so great about that? Timothy McVeigh, who was part of the Christian Identity movement, had strong beliefs also. The idea is not to offend Christians. The idea is for people to engage their brains and think about why they accept irrational beliefs as true facts. The concept of the Trinity is qualitatively no better than the idea that, in heaven, 70 virgins await Moslem martyrs. Neither makes a shred of sense.
-
people still have no right to tell people they can or cannot believe in something.. or should or should not for that matter.
Alot of things happen in the world, why does everyone have to bring religion into it? Not every christian goes out and bombs a building.. not every muslim wants to take down a building
