With correct storage techniques, it is highly improbable to extract a working firearm from a house. A good gun safe is VERY hard to get into without damaging the firearms inside.Unfortunately; too many people keep a loaded, unlocked firearm in their closet, under the bed, in the desk etc. Putting a trigger lock on them makes them a REAL pain in the ass to get access to, locking the gun up in a safe makes acquiring firearms this way too risky for the pay off.

I haven't stopped watching the news since. my brother's best friend goes to that school and my brother's been calling him but he won't answer nor will his family. so hopefully he's ok. I truly feel for those families suffering. you can never trust the quiet ones. that's why I usually try to make friends with them. if they're willing

Very true. I grew up with a huge walk in gun safe. No one was gonna get into that and they sure as heck weren't gonna pack it out.I was just taught how and when to handle a gun. My perspective comes from being a raised to be a responsible gun owner...Sadly, too many are not.

There is a list (not official, but pretty accurate) on Facebook of the deceased if you want to check. There are those that are still "missing" too though.

Well, Fox News has once again stepped up to claim their position as complete idiots! I don't know whats worse, that they put Jack Thompson on air at all, or that they described him as being a "School-shooting expert"!!Yep, despite the fact that he's a known liar, infamous for threatening fellow attorneys and judges and is on the cusp of (one would hope) losing his license to practice law in Florida, Jack Thompson managed to weasel his way onto Fox News to spew his own particular brand of hate and lies. That's right, Thompson is trying to link the worst shooting in U.S. history to video games!
-
Well, I guess this is called progress; 50 years ago they would have blamed the shooting on different 'undesirable' races.I love the "expert" title (Since they are self-proclaimed).I'm an expert in the field of neuroendocrinology wait till I get on Fox. I generally agree that Fox news is the most psychotic and radical broadcast available this side of Al Jazer. I often tune to it just to laugh.

oh c'mon Bobby
you know that if it wasn't for moronic pundantry, Americans would never understand current events. -
There should be a charity set up to send free international newspapers to every household in America, and an Oxford Dictionary for every citizen.

Quote: I believe we should quit trying to increase gun control and start relaxing it. Ummm no. Though I am all for people having the right to bare arms etc (I come from a family who hunts and owns many guns), I don't think we can get anymore relaxed than we already are. Most states, as long as you are a US citizen without a felony you can buy a guy, which is how this student was able to purchase both of his guns. But again I am not saying that I think more strict gun control laws is the save all, because truthfully it's not. I cannot even say better parenting is the save all because you can have great parents, and than snap because of the way your fellow peers treat you (Or whatever the scenario is). What I do hope to see out of all this is tighter securities on campuses. I strongly feel (and have for a long time) that campus security should be able to have firearms, and I think there needs to be MORE campus security. Also want to see more strict lockdown procedures in place, because in this situation if there was a permanent lockdown after the two students in the dorm where murdered, many of this other murdered students would not have happened. Just my thoughts for the morning
-
so your saying that you should start arming your collage, university, and even highschool students incase some guy goes nuts so a bunch of 16 year olds can commit murder? is that what your saying?
-
Well here is a question for you: Why should Americans have the right to bare arms?

I think a lot of it for many American's comes down to hunting and for protection. I feel we should be allowed to protect ourselves, inside out own homes. But that's where it should be left. And even than there should be requirements on how to safely store a weapon, not to mention use the weapon.I don’t know Bob it's a good question, but that question is going to get a different response depending on the person and their viewpoint. One can simply say its part of out constitution lol.

I understand people wanting protection in their own home, but why not just spend money on decent home security rather than on a gun?I dunno, I've just nevre understood the gun culture in America, it doesn't really make any sense. Its like everyone wants a gun simply because they have the right to have one!

Last night on PrimeTime, they touched the issue of gun control. They said that Virginia was very lax as far as gun sales were concerned. NY is upset becasue most gun crimes in NY involve guns bought in Virginia. All you need are 2 ID's and no criminal record and you have a gun in about 20-30 minutes. Also they said that in Australia, they had shooting sprees on average every 18 months up until 1990(?). They enacted tougher gun control and they haven't had any major incidents since that time.I'm against banning gun ownership, but feel that there should be a more strict procedure in the purchasing process.

I found this article interesting.
As second by second reports of the event came to me via the news-junky lady in the office listening to the radio as if her son was attending school there, and the term "Asian shooter" became the catch phrase for the day, I found myself wondering why or what ethnicity is supposed to tell us about the shooter and why it seemed to have such importance.
Most likely it was repeated ad nauseum because it was the only detail made public for some time. The part I find interesting is how it made Asians in the U.S. feel and why they felt that way.
Following is the article:
_Let It Be Some Other 'Asian'
New America Media, News Analysis, Andrew Lam, Posted: Apr 17, 2007
Editor's Note: As the country waited to learn the identity of the killer at Virginia Tech, Vietnamese-American writer Andrew Lam says all ethnic Americans held their breath, waiting to see if they would shoulder the spillover of blame for the acts of an individual. Lam is a writer and editor with New America Media and author of "Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora".
SAN FRANCISCO - All across America, no doubt, non-Korean Asian-Americans are now heaving a sigh of relief. "Asian," after all, was the four-alarm-fire word we saw throughout the day after the shootings that took the lives of 33 people at Virginia Tech. The shooter was "Asian," the news reports said. But who was this "Asian" exactly?
Before the news identified the killer as Cho Seung-hui, a 23-year-old English major from South Korea, all ethnic backgrounds were up for grabs. A friend from a small college town on the East Coast, who is Chinese, called to say: "Please, please let it be some other Asian. We'll be in deep if it's Chinese."
In a popular Vietnamese chatroom, Vietnamese college students were writing to each other to speculate. One said, "I have a bad feeling. It might be Mi't (Vietnamese slang for Vietnamese)." Others wrote in advising each other on what to do.
The blogosphere buzzed with speculation on the identity of the killer. The waiting game was as tense as waiting to find out who the next American Idol might be. On another blog, debbieschlussel.com, Schlussel speculated that the shooter could be a Muslim Pakistani. "Why am I speculating that the 'Asian' gunman is a Pakistani Muslim? Because law enforcement and the media strangely won't tell us more specifically who the gunman is."
A Muslim Pakistani friend, an engineer who refused to have his name mentioned, emailed me to say, "If he's a Paki and Muslim, we might all just pack up and go home. I'm praying that he is some other Asian."
Let it be some other Asian! This was the prayer among so many Asian-American communities. And not just Asians.
"Every time there's an incident like this, every ethnic group is on pins and needles," said Khalil Abdullah, an African-American colleague. An Anglo shooter may be an individual, a loner, but God forbid if a person of color goes on a shooting rampage. His whole tribe would be implicated. "I still recall my aunts when President Kennedy was assassinated. They were praying that it wasn't a Negro." Many ethnic communities do not feel that they belong to the core of the American fabric, Abdullah added. "The action of an individual can cancel out the good image of an entire group."
Case in point: A Virginia Tech student and Chinese-American blogger was initially thought by many bloggers to be the culprit. He was reputed to have a penchant for guns and many photos of himself posing with his rifles. More than 200,000 people have visited his sites since the shooting and many left angry, racist epithets against Chinese. He told ABC, "Right now, pretty much the Internet thinks it is me... I am just interested in trying to clear my name."

I can sympathize with how these people felt. I often feel the same way when an NDN does something stupid.
I wonder what those feeling say about our multi-cultural melting pot.

I personally don't see anything wrong with owning a gun as long as you know the safety precautions that go along with. I suppose the reason I think that way is because I was raised around fire arms (I'm a country bumpkin after all!). I'm not saying there were thousands of guns lying around my home or anything, but I was raised that a gun is not a toy, it is a dangerous weapon, and aside from needing it for protection from an intruder in our home or for hunting it was not to be touched let alone played with. I was taught to shoot a pistol and a rifle when I was about 17 or 18 by my father and brothers and once I turn 21 my sister and I will take a class and get our license to carry a fire arm (should we choose to carry one). I do believe that it really is too easy for someone to get one. I think it should be much harder to obtain a fire arm; there should be a more strict procedure in the purchasing process.

Eddie eddie eddie...what if I told you there was a town where its the law you had to own a gun? there is no crime there, nearly no crime anyway and violent crime is nearly nill. Most guns used in crimes are stolen, or bought stolen. Noone wants agun bought legally to be traced back to them. When I have sufficient time, Ill get into this whole gun debate thing. Guns are nto the reason for crime, they are a tool of it and rarely are purchased legally.
-
I've actually read about that. They said their crime rate was practically cut in half once people began having guns in their homes and what not.

As I recall, and its been years since I found out about that town, it was in your neck of the woods, down in Texas. The reason for the right to keep arms was to keep the citizens of the country armed so thta if the gov should step out of line again it couldnt become a dictator ship, the citizens could stand up adn defend themselves against it.I have enough of an arsenal to take over a small town. and most of its locked up in a gun safe thats bolted to concrete floors and the wall. however I have a loaded .357 not a foot from me right now and it goes where I go. its uner my pillow at night, in my car when I drive, and a small .22 abovre the fridge, in a nice little box that you use your fingertips to punch in a simple code to open it. That leaves all my guns locked out of childrens reach, unless you count the .357 revolver that I keep on me or near me all the time.Mr U may have nice friends, but I dont, I can lay my hands on a stolen, cheap gun in about an hour should I so decide. Most of that time is the drive to the city. for 50 bucks or so I could get the same .22 cal pistol this dipshit had. for 200 I could get the glock.I have a glock already, the 17l in 9mm, not a bad gun, but its picky about its ammo, it doesnt like to feed hollow points or stars, and its really only good with FMJs. Personally, I prefer the revolvers. A good light trigger pull double action revolver with a concealed hammer, 2" barrel and something in a .40 or better (not that .45 ACP bullshit round, fucking junk) You can carry a gun that small in your pocket, its easily concealed, and shoudl yuo have reason to point and shoot with out removing it from your pocket, it will fire all 6 shots with out fail, no hang ups, no jams, try that with your auto loaders or even a standard revolver My .357 however is my favorite gun, 6" barrel, nickel plated, heavy end to keep the recoil down and get me back on target faster, with pachmyr grips and th main spring cut ever so slightly down and filed to keep it stiffer so it can be hammered over and over and over. It does not however have teh concealed hammer and it doesnt fit in my pocket. hicking I wear it on my hip, fishing on my chest, and concealed around town, in a shoulder holster. Its big, and scary looking and on most ocasions when I had reason to pull it out the sight of it was enough to make people leave me the fuck alone.Never had the same asshole twice banging on my door at 4 am threatening to kill me I like to keep exploding rounds in it at home, they dont penatrate the wall sof my condo and make me worry about killing the people next door should I shoot it inside. I also have an old rifle, bolyt action, that is chambered for the 30.06. cut the barrel to 14" to keep it legal, changed the stock for a pistol grip with a long forearm, and had a new crown put on the muzzle. the 30.06 pistol is just for fun, Id never shoot that bastard inside a house and only shoot it on rare occasions to begin with, its expensive and hurts my wrist to put more than a dozen slugs downrange with it.Now that .44 mag rifle..... if shells were cheaper for it Id shoot that bastard all day for fun.Someone may well get into my house, but between teh guns and the knifes that I keep stashed in easy places they would nevcer get out alive, schools are another matter. So is the mall as people wher I live found out a short while ago.Should yuo care to rad up on that mall shooting google trolly mall shootings in utah. That kid was 18, bought the shotgun legally and they still have no idea where he found the pistol. Bosnian refugee, I forget how many people he killed that night and howmany were wounded. It was 2 months ago and one of his vitems got out of the hospital just yesterday ( April 16 2007) and is in a wheel chair for life. Many children killed, or thier parents. its a great fucking time ! a woman that was ther to meet her husband to buy a wedding ring and actually get married instead of living together for 20 years. a total fucking mess. That one was lucky, an off duty cop happend to be there for valentines with his wife at a upscale brazilian place for dinner, the shooting started and he ran out killing the lights in teh place and locking the door behind him and shot and killed the kid who was haivng target practice down the hall. The more people that carried guns the less time some asshole has to break in and start using his.You can argue what ya like, there have been many cases on record where a concealed carry permitee has stopped a crime. Would you rather wait for police to arrive or have a way to defend yourself against some asshole with a gun?The mcdonalds shooting near San Diego a few years ago, themall shooting here in feb, the VT shooting the other day, take your pick, all of them could of been stopped sooner had someone had a gun and training to put a stop to them. You get some trainign in the mandatory concealed carry class. It doesnt make you a cop, but it does make you prepared should the need arise. Arm the schools? why the fuck not?not the students, but alot of them ( below college level) are already armed anyways. Arm th teachers, atleast those that care to own and carry a gun and have obtained a concealed carry permit.Take away the guns from society and only the criminals will have guns and I have never happened to have a cop around when I actually needed one. They cant protect you. The only one that can protect you is YOU.Ok Im done ranting, Its rainign like abitch so Im off work today and need to get my garage cleaned out enough to put a litter box and a bed for the knocked up cat I own.Fucking bitch went and got herself pregnant.she was supposed to get spayed this month when she got out of heat, the door was left opened while grocerys got brought in and te cat didnt get put away and now I have kittens that should be here in the next week or so.anyone want a fucking cat? Ill give ya one free so long as you drive to Utah to pick it up Should be ready in what? 10 to 12 weeks? and then the mother is getting her guts cut out !how fucking shitty is that timing? get knocked up after running out, and all a matter of weeks before her already made appointment to get fixed?Id like to shoot her, stupid damned animal.
