They probably know that Christianity was a breaking away from Judaism, but most probably don't realize the connection with the Muslims.

Some factoids for the curious about the relationship between Islaam and Christianity:Besides the overlap of early biblical texts between Islaam and Christianity, Islaamic tradition also includes an overlap with other Christian beliefs. Islaam holds Jesus as a major and highly revered prophet (though not the Messiah). Furthermore, according to Islaamic tradition, Mary is said to be the purest woman of all creation.Edit: Ramm, I just read your post above. I think you've made some really excellent points that we might all take to heart. In particular, selectively quoting the Quran is no different then selectively quoting the bible, and it makes no sense to use these quotes against Islaam as a whole (anymore than it would to use strange quotes against Christianity). Many people in this country implicitly subscribe to the viewpoint that troubles you: that all Muslisms are religious extremists. This is obviously ridiculous and untrue. I tend to think the same thing about Muslim extremism as I do about Christian extremism: It's not a reflection of the core religious beliefs of those religions, but of politics.

Most of the time, if not all the time, extremists do not reflect true religious beliefs. Hence my reasoning for the "muslims are bad, look at the suicide bombers" argument as being stupid and null.

i thought a saved Christian was someone who originally didnt believe in God, or Christian faith, who then went through a bad patch and turned to religion for guidance. Probably wrong, but... shrugs
