Does anyone here know what I should do if I want to train to play fullback for soccer? I used to play it years back, and lately I have been playing it (messing around) with my buddy and I want to pick it up again and maybe play in an Amatuer League or something. Any training tips and practice tips will be appreciated, thanks guys and gals.

Soccer Help

Ok, first things first. There is no such thing as a full back in football (soccer for you). You can play in defense, mid-field or forwards. You can play centre, left wing or right wing. Or, you can be a goal keeper.
You should practise sprinting, and passing. As simple as it may seem, if you keep practising passing the ball (short and long distance) your game can improve a lot!

yeah i forgot if it was called fullback in football (soccer). Been awhile. Well as far as passing, should i practice just standing apart and passing because I can do that fine, should I do it while we are moving?

to tell you the truth it doesn't matter what u call the positions... football is football... and you've come to the right place for soccer advice...I'm 15 and play soccer for 3 different teams... A "premier" team...the state team...and my school team...I made varsity my freshman year!!...ok done with the bragging and on to the advice...For playing defense you need to work on a few things... start with cardiovascular stuff...run,bike... just get the blood flowing basic on-the-ground passes(not moving and moving) long balls thru-balls [finding a wing or striker and stringing a pass in] chipping long range shooting marking someone shielding and throw some juggling in there... juggling will always help ur touch... i practice it everydayi really hope this helps... and i'm really happy to see someone playing some football/soccer. In my opinion it is one of the best things in the world [ps] any one else play soccer...i'd love to talk about it with you guys/girls

I have an FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football, and I can tell you that left or right back is still reffered to as a full back position.
The coaching you will have to undertake is depenbdent on the tactics the team you are playing for will utilise. I don't know the standard of playing in the USA or the standard formationsd you use etc but over here the standard is pretty much a 442 formation win the fullbacks making a progressive overlap. The way we teach the fullbacks in a 442 formation would differ greatly, for example, from the coaching techniques we would teach wing backs in a 532 formation playign wingbacks for example. So, you can't use "set instructions" like T-Mac above posted,it just isn't correct and won't improve your specific position. Hell, he even missed out coaching tackling for a defence position!! - and what the hell is "juggling"?
Anyway, PM me for my msn address if you want more help, I'd be obliged to help, if you want to see my qualifications I can always scan them :P
To set a few things straight; T-Mac/bobalicious: football is not football, there are are hell of alot of differences from a coaching perspective between positions. For example, a defensive midfielder plays nothing like an attacking midfielder and thus would need to be coached accoerdingly. A centre-half plays nothing like a full-back. Whoever you play for T-Mac seems to make no difference, you still seem to understand very little about the game of football, so quit the bragging.

okay, shielding what is that? Have to re-educate me, I played football, then I played American Football, so terms are a bit rusty. As far as long balls, long range shooting, and chipping. What are some distances. Like I should be able to chip, half the field? and a long ball shoul be able to go from the outer box to over and past mid-field right?
-
Yes what is sheilding? not something we hear over here, the birthplace of football.
-
Yeah, I've no idea what shielding is either. And I think by juggling, he meant volleying.
-
At first I couldn't see how throwing 3 juggling balls between your hand simultaneously would help you be more proffecient at playing footy
-
well what about the rest of my post, does anyone know anything about that?
-
Read my post above.
-
no all this stuffAs far as long balls, long range shooting, and chipping. What are some distances. Like I should be able to chip, half the field? and a long ball shoul be able to go from the outer box to over and past mid-field right?
-
shielding is just putting your body between someone and the ball...juggling is just keeping the ball in the air with some touches...chipping is usually shorter distance like 10-20 ydsyou should be able to shoot from 20-30 yds outand ya thats a good length for long balls
-
oRc... you seemed to misunderstand my statement..."football is football" i meant that the **names ** of the positions don't matter... i fully understand the difference between midfield and defense... i was refering back to
In reply to:
there is no such thing as fullback in football
[i understand the game is very different over here in the US but how the hell do you not know what shielding and juggling is... are they called something else over there]
-
Yes, sheliding = blocking, juggling = kick ups. who invented these pathetic phrases when we invented the game?We played a team from the US once at my school and FLOORED them, pity I was in net even I couldve got past their defence. They were AWFUL.
-
lol AMERICA=SUCKS AT SOCCER idk why they changed the terms... i guess it was so us stupid americans could understand
-
Quite.
-
lol
-
I need some help. I can get to those distances easily, and even farther. But for the long balls, I have a very band tendency to bend the ball real bad. I need to know how to kick the long ball properly and shooting, I suck.

Yah well if we played a game of american football against any european teams we would smash them, and if all of our NBA stars actually played for the olypmic teams we would dominate like we use to also
