What you're saying reflects the advice of nutritionists I've spoken to.
-
I hate my life, Please cherish yours.
-
thank you steveA, that is because I've gotten this advice from nutritionist too. Its funny because you also learn that the diet plan for people trying to lose weight and people trying to gain weight are very similar if not the same. It almost sounds insane for someone to tell a person trying to lose weight to eat more...but its true, eating more (in small evenly divided meals throught the day) helps speeds up the persons metabolism and will help the person with their goals in losing weight. The problem with 3 meals a day method is the body gets used to not having any fuel to burn during the times we feel hungry (between meals) so it tends to store extra fat for use during those times. ALso the body can only use so much of the fuel (food) that we consume during a specific time so its only logical that the rest of it gets stored as fat. Thats why people who eat 3 full healthy meals each day can still get fat. damn sorry for this ridiculously long post.
-
Yep, and that's why skipping meals altogether does your body no favor.
-
steveA sorry but i noticed that you are from south beach...you dont happen to be on the south beach diet are you?? hehe sorry but i couldnt resist. anyways if you are can u tell me what that diets all about (in private if u want) Only thing i know about it is that when the whole south beach diet thing emerge people went crazy buying those laughing cow cheese things. haha I love those things they taste so good.
-
Nope, just live there. The South Beach diet is a less-extreme, healthier version of a low-carb diet. It's probably easier to stay on than the ridiculous Atkins diet, but I don't think fad diets in general are prudent. If you have a specific medical condition, then a special diet by someone who has a clue, like a nutritionist, is appropriate. As far as the OP is concerned, if I ate (or thought I did) a reasonable diet, but I still could not lose weight, I'd make an appointment with a nutritionist ASAP. If you live in the U.S.: It should be covered by your insurance (you may need a referral from your doctor).
-
hehe yea thats some good advice there. I think it would work out better for them to get advice from a professional nutritionist than to get responses like "skip a meal even if u feel like your starving".
-
In reply to: I dunno why u dont eat lunch during your lunch break but whatever. He can get away with it, and lose a good amount of weight, if he's active during his lunch break. When I used to play soccer during my lunch break, instead of eating, I lost about 10 pounds in about 2-3 months.
-
If you have the right metabolism (and if you're young and active), that can work, although it's not the best thing for your body. For most people, though, skipping meals is counterproductive when trying to lose weight.
-
yea but thats very dependent on the person. Not everyone can do that. People with faster metabolisms can get away with that better. I see overweight people all the time eat nothing but 2-3 salads a day, do they lose a single pound? unfortunately no. Their bodies are not tuned in a way where they will lose weight that easily. Their body types are tuned to storing as much fat as possible as opposed to you or me (faster metabolisms) we can lose weight easily.
-
thank you again steveA, you beat me to the punch, well at least there is someone on this board that sees and understands what I'm talking about.
-
There's a stereo effect going on here.
-
lol steveA

Is there any way to see what your metabolism is? How can you tell if you have a high/low metabolism? just by how fast you get hungry after consuming food? or do you have to eat, become hungry, and still lose weight?
-
you can't physically "see" it on yourself or anything. People with fast metabolisms burn energy easier than people without fast metabolisms. You can usually tell because these are the people who can eat tons of food and dont gain weight. People with slow metabolism are usually the people who gain weight easily. Lets say they eat a chocolate cake the day before, they might gain a pound or 2 from it the next day(or so they say).
here is a link that will provide more metabolism and its effects on the human body.
-
If you go to a clinic that has the equipment, they'll put you on a treadmill or stationary bicycle, and put a mask (actually, a think on your mouth, with your nostrils clipped shut) on your face. By measuring the amount of oxygen you consume, they can determine your metabolic rate while exercising.
They can also test your resting metabolic rate (which might be more useful for most people) by measuring your oxygen consumption while you're resting quietly on a table.
-
oh wow so you're saying they can measure your metabolic rate by the amount of oxygen you consume? thats pretty neat. is this the reason why people who are overweight breather harder than others? haha

I think there is more I should tell you. I was skinny and active for the first ten years of my life. My dad did leave me and my mother when i was about 2, which may be a factor in why i am fat and ugly. So i had no father figure to enforce anything at all, and my mother was working everyday so that we could have money. Im kicking my dads ass when im 18. So once i went in 5th grade, my mon had 2 jobs, sometimes three, and was never home until 10 at night. No babysitter, I was always home alone, sometimes at my grandmothers house 5 houses down (She couldnt take care of me, she was taking care of our sick grandfather). It was just me and my mother, and she simply didnt have enough time to cook decent meals for me or anything, so she just bought fast food. I was ten... how the hell could i say no?So five years later, from a once good looking, active kid (Just looked through mt photo album i made 7 years ago), I am now a lonely-fat peice of shit that doesn't want to live anymore, atleast not in this body. Too bad dreams dont come true, I wish everything would just be normal again, I dont have any friends, and on thursday in summer school, geometry, our teacher told us the difference between angles, he said for acute angles, 'just remember cute things are small, and obtuse, think of it as obese'. And i heard a student say my name. After school that day, I kicked his ass, and now all of his friends are waiting to kick mine. Im not super depressed or anything, but if i did have a .357 in my hand, if gladly pull the trigger, how that i think about it. It's probably painless, and with all the pain im going through now, its probably nothing. For the past three weeks, i had no soda, 15 cups of water a day, 2 cups of v8 a day, and multi vitamins a day, as well as going to the gym for 2 hours, burning 1000 calories on eliptical, showering, then riding my bike back home, which is probably another 300 calories going to and back from the gym, uphill. Not a fucking pound lost. My metabolism probably died or something, or maybe it turned into fat. Either way, I really dont look foward to tomorrow. It's just going to be the same fucking thing. Now I have to get ready for work soon, which I also don't look foward to, because they all hate me and i cant wait to quit. If I had money for some form of surgery, like gastric bypass, id do it, but when you live with a single parent, income is an issue. My stomach is probably as big as a head, because i can be full after eating a meal, then be starving 30 mins later. You guys are so damn lucky that your lives are working out fine, and yes, i always look down, not only at school, but everywhere. Whats the point of looking up? I dont want anyone to get offended by my ugly face. And ive just read coutnless websites about teenage weightloss tips"You need to eat vegetables, and get active"lmfao, thats easy for some dumbass that never had the problem in the first place. Why dont you just make our fat asses run 20 miles? and eat 100 calories a day. "IAmUgly, Right to the point, Thanks dad!"

As a friend I have a tip for you. .You're giving up. That's your problem. I already told you, changes start to happen after 8 months, that's natural for obese (excuse me for using this term) people. If you give up, well, you have lost one of the most important thing in life, that is, to be alive.Your metabolism is slower than most people which means you got to work harder. And seeing from your story, you were once thin, which means, your metabolism may be faster than most other people. The thing you are doing now is the right thing to do, workout just like you are doing now. I also recommend that you go on a low Gi diet. It's a diet which people who suffers diabetes use, but scientifically, it's been proven to work well with everyone else. Look it up and study. You'll also need more muscle to burn fat, that may be the reason why you're not losing a pound. I'm not encouraging you to become a muscle mountain or anything but you need to get some muscle or all that exercise would be in vain. It's rather easy, just take a medium weight, which you feel is comfortable, and work on it for about 15 times for 3 sets. Oh, don't do this daily also. Do it every other day, or when you feel like it but don't strain yourself.Another suggestion, swimming. This puts all of your body into work with reduced chances of injury. It's effective once it becomes a habit. This is one of my longest thread, and I want you to succeed, and I am always here to help, so if you do need more of my help just PM me, ok? Don't go killing yourself, because it's plain stupid.Best Luck-Taison! out

Thanks, As for muscle goes, I have TONS of muscle... well, not tons, i can bench 200 lbs, my entire arm feels like a rock when i flex, and i have big quads from leg presses, i have lots of muscle, and lots of fat too, of course. i think i better see a professional.

In reply to: shit. Does that mean i`m a never gonna eat again ? I'm afraid I wasn't clear... at all. What I meant was: ~Never try to wait to eat until you are starving (it can cause you to over-eat). Sorry, guys.
