Is it true that midol can cause impotence? I 'used' to take it for migraines, cuz hey if it works for menstrual cramps, it can work for my measely headaches and pains...BUT can it cause impotence or low sperm count?
-
Midol, for men??
-
I doubt that you found that info in the package insert. Sounds like a (false) urban legend to me.
-
Yeah, I went to work one day, and my co-worker had a headache, I told her I had some midol, she gave me this strange look. A few days later, she came back talking about how she heard that it can cause impotence or lower sperm count, I didn't think it was true, but it made me think, that maybe there was some trace amounts of estrogen in the pills. Just wanted to make sure, I hadn't asked the docs yet. Appreciate the reply's though.

You eat commercial beef (most of which is hormoned up)? You're consuming small amounts of estrogen (estradiol). How about wheat germ and soybean oil? They contain phytoestrogens. If an over-the-counter drug contained enough estrogen to matter, you'd need a prescription for it.Midol is mostly acetominophen (Tylenol), caffeine (theoretically makes the pain reliever work better), and a diuretic (which drives water out of your body and reduces swelling). If you have migraines, you're better off taking generic Tylenol, if it works for you, or a prescription anti-migraine drug, if you can tolerate it.
-
Yeah, I can't have acetominophen...hurts the liver and kidneys, I only have 1 kidney, and my liver is already fucked :frowning:...so i was taking the acetominophen free midol. i can have Ibuprofen, but that makes me vomit, if I havne't consumed food with it. Which is hard to do while working on a register.
-
Man, you really need to stay away from acetominophen.Has your doctor suggested any prescription drug? The problem with ibuprophen and aspirin long-term is that they can make your stomach bleed...sometimes pretty badly.
-
Yeah, I do stay away from it...trust me, that's a last resort...Umm..they say Ibuprofen -- the main ingredient, I can't remember. But bout the only thing i was taking for headaches was oxycontin...which i received after they took out my kidney.
-
Oxycontin will help with the pain, but a prescription specifically for migraines will address the cause, rather than the effect (pain), of the headache. Did your doctor diagnose the headaches as migraine?
-
Not really, I didn't even tell them, because they're not frequent.
-
Then how do you know they're actually migraines?
-
oh, before they took out my kidney i was having them...long story, i've been sent home twice with the oxycontin...first time for a lung biopsy...second for the kidney...before they took out my kidney i was having them, and i took the left over oxycontin..
-
And you're absolutely certain that they were / are migraine headaches?Given what you've been through, it would have been / still is a good idea for your doctor(s) to know about your headaches. What will you do when you run out of Oxycontin?
