I know the more prolific posters as caricatures of whomever they really are.

Hatred Against America

but back to the last post. YOu really should become an librarian if you aren't one. You seem like the kind of person that would never forget a book or what someone said and who said it. You can be really good in helping those librarians catch those people who dont pay their late fees wait even better you should work at a video rental store, I used to work next to one and I remember the girls that worked there said most of the people never paid the fees .

In reply to:
our education system is so fucked
Sad to say but so is the British system. Every year, our secondary schools (high schools) take in a crop of 11/12 year olds who are barely literate, some of whom are completely illiterate. In a supposedly 'developed' country, this is appalling. A friend of mine (he's 36 now) says that when he was 5 years old, every kid in his class at school could read to some degree. Some could read simple children's books with no problems and some had to struggle a little but according to him, all of them had some form of basic literacy at 5 years old.
By contrast, when I was 5 years old, only 16 people in my class of 22 could read at all and of those 16, only myself and 3 others could genuinely be considered literate. The rest knew individual words but struggled horribly even with the most simplistic of sentences.
Also, on the subject of free public services and tax: In the UK, yes, we have free health care and yes, it works very well for many people and is envied by some countries. However, our health services (and our other public services) are almost all in crisis because we're not paying enough tax. In the United Kingdom, we don't like paying tax and even though it's essential for the public good, many people are not capable of seeing the benefits of a better system in 30 years time if it means they have to pay higher taxes now. We do have a good system over here - AngelWitch's mum is proof of that - but it could be so much better if the general populace had a greater understanding of economic reality and a greater sense of civic responsibility. The way things are going at the moment, it's perfectly possible (in fact it's more likely than not!) that the National Health system in the UK will have largely (maybe completely) disappeared by the end of the 21st century.
Finally, grammar and spelling: I try not to be a grammar nazi. I try not to pick up people on small mistakes or obvious typing errors. Despite this, I do consider grammar and spelling to be important, even on the Internet and I think everybody should be taking the time to read their post carefully before finalising its posting to the board.

I just wanted to say... bananas. Grammar, grammer. I always get those two mixed up. Get a hold of yourself.

Oh yeah, here's my contribution to the discussion: I think America is great. :/
-
So I had a new UPS guy deliver my package today...
-
UPS and FedEx guy sandwitch? I find that the UPS guy thinks he's cooler than the FedEx guy, and the FedEx guy thinks he's cooler than the UPS guy. I wonder if the FedEx overnight guy thinks he's cooler than the FedEx Ground guy. Was that FedEx overnight guy, or FedEx guy overnight? And now Kinkos does FedEx. Kinko indeed.
-
I think he was DHL
-
um... what?
-
I believe she's talking about men who deliver. That's what makes America so great.
-
Smooches, don't worry. It is Steves knee jerk reaction to you. My guess is he sees you as a religious nut, and it seems he associates religion with backwards, hicks, yokels, etc. There are a great many very intelligent, highly educated people that embrace a religion and believe in their faith. I had a friend who was a research physicist, and he was a very devout man. There are a great many things leading to the decline of American education, and it is less than useful to blame the teaching of scientific creationsism in some schools as the cause. The decline has been ongoing for some time. Blame can be attatched to the NEA, the Department of Education, disintergrating nuclear families, etc etc etc. Then there is the idea that education need be reduced to the lowest common denominator, and thus the slow dumbing down of the language, so that everyone doesn't need to try and reach the bar that is set high, the bar needs to be brought down so we all can simply and easily step over it.I know you know these things, you are just a handy vehicle at present.
-
No, seriously, Amanda was talking about the guys who deliver packages to your home. You know how it's been, since the llama died.
-
Oh, oh. Right.
-
The llama died? Diver told me the llama just went to stay on his farm for a little vacation.
-
if you'll remember, some how I was blamed for that tragety.I've offererd as mant alpacas as I have access to in an attempt to make it up to you all
-
MMMMmmmmmmm...alpaca. Alpacas and ostriches and llamas from foreign lands live in the U.S., and as far as I can tell, they love it here.
-
my reply to you, Smooches, concerns a post you entered on the first page of this thread. I have no input or concern about the delivery guy.
