I will explain this the best I can.Between my front teeth and lip, if you go down, I guess to like my 'gum' area, where that little 'valley' is... come up on the other side (Back side of lip?) there is like a sore there. When I run my tounge across it, it feels as if it goes up and then goes into a little indent, then back up and out. Its white. It hurts like hell tho when I eat! Now, my gum and tooth are sore. I tryed salt, and mouth wash. Its been there for 3 days? Any idea on how to fix this or what it is? Thanks Edit: I havn't done 'chewing tobacco' in 6 months +.. I've only had 3 cigs this month and daily cannabis use.

Mouth sore...
-
what color is it? does it look puss filled or like its rotting? is there a weird taste coming out of it or a weird odor? I used to get sores in my mouth whenever I was sick with a fever and stuff but they usually went away within a few days. I cant say they ever hurt to the point where my gums and my teeth were hurting though. You might wanna get it checked, sounds like suspicious.

Its white, doesnt look/feel like its 'puss filled' and I dont notice any odd tastes. Im not ill right now, that I know of. I threw some Anbesol on it, to keep the pain down a little.

Canker Sores: What Are They and What Can You Do About Them?
-
Hmm if its causing you tooth to hurt as well you might actually have an abcess tooth starting. You can get an abcess bubble right beside the tooth, ot if its in the front like you desribe, it is possible for a bubble to form on the inside of the lip. Just something to think about. If the tooth which is causing pain starts to wake you up in the middle of the night, go see a dentist.

My son gets those sometimes. They are commonly called 'Fever Blisters' (they are on the order of a cold sore). You can get an anti-viral prescription, but the doctor said it will go away on it's own. And my son's did.I also asked why he got them. (he's only 8) And he said there are many reasons, even stress can cause them. But they are contagious while they are a blister. So don't share your drinks or anything like that.

Don't cold sores (herpes simplex blisters) form outside of the mouth, while canker sores (mouth ulcers) form inside the mouth?
-
Not always Steve. herpes simplex can also form inside the mouth as well as outside. I have even seen a case here at my office that a person had Herpes simplex and it went from inside the mouth than spanning outside the mouth and across the cheek. Yes that's an extreme outbreak, but just shows how crazy it can get!
-
Have you seen a case where there was a single big herpes simplex sore inside the mouth, and none anywhere else?
-
Only one time comes to mind. It was the isnide corner of the mouth. Looked like a normal cold sore you'd see but inverted.. if that makes sense?
-
Those kind of sores are all related to herpes. I just said 'cold sore' instead of herpes to give an example. Like a cold sore is treatable without a prescription, just like these fever blisters.
-
Canker sores (minor aphthous ulcers), though, are not caused by a virus. It appears that they're caused by one's own immune system getting confused and attacking tissue in the mouth.
-
actually it can be both. Some oral sores can be herpe related and can look just like oral ulcers. Though generally, so the say, herpe related sores are more painful.
-
Oral sores can be either, but cold sores are cold sores and canker sores are canker sores.
-
babe whats your definition for canker sore and cold sore?? And don't go looking on a medical site and post their definition, I want your definition.
-
I have to agree with Steve here.
If you want to lump every sore in the mouth into one category, that's one thing. However, a canker sore is not a "cold" sore that one typically associates with oral herpes.
-
A cold sore is caused by a herpes simplex viral infection. A canker sore is a mouth ulcer that has nothing to to with a viral infection. Unless your trying to prove some point, why do you want my uneducated definitions? You work in a doctor's office. Ask someone there or look it up.
-
Umm, I never said FaBMX had a canker sore. What he describes is related to the herpes family. But my point was he does not need a prescription for it to go away. It will hurt like hell for about 2 weeks and then either burst or start shrinking and it will go away.
-
First off I know the difference.. I was asking your for your definition because some people have misconceptions what a cold sore is and what a canker sore is. Not need to get tiffy.Cold sores (Those nasty sores that are generally at the corner of the mouth)are viral.. you can give them to another person. When you have a cold sore you should never share someones lip stick, or chap stick. Also kissing can transfer the virus.Canker sores CAN be viral or they can simply be oral ulcers. As I said they do look similar in appearance and people usually just group them together.
-
> Canker sores CAN be viral
I don't think you're correct. You may have been hanging around people who use the terminology loosely. If a sore is viral, then it's a cold sore. Canker sores are not viral. What is the source of your opinion?
