i've been diagnosed with add for as long as i can remember. I'm almost 15 now and i've never taken medication for it. so I'm wondering if medication might actually help me out? cause it's really annoying. i want to be able to concentrate. my attention span is worse then a toddlers. i can't do one thing for more then 3 minutes and i don't like it... does medication help the concentration factor or just make you less hyper? i'm always so hyper, and people, especially adults hate me for it. I'm so sick of being an ADD kid!!!

medication could be a good choice for you, i know it helps a lot of people, go talk to your doctor about your options

I hate taking medication for my ADD, so I stopped a couple years back. I'm glad I did. You don't "need" medication, you're not mentally inept or impaired, you can focus if you have the will to do so. It's harder for you, me, and everyone else with ADD than most other people, but everyone has their share of weaknesses. Just because something is labeled with a name, doesn't mean you don't have the ability to do something if you really try.In my case I had to because after I stopped taking the medication I was on, I was having problems concentrating and getting work done in class. Like many people, I gave in to laziness and didn't force myself to apply. That's when my marks fell. In math especially, I had to develop better habits, and with better focus I did develop those better habits. I'm happier now knowing that I don't need medication, and am not taking something that was also adding to my sleep problems (I also have a problem with insomnia).

I would talk to your doc, cause meds can be effective for some.

You're a real wiseguy. I'd buy you a common-sense transplant, if it were possible.I know you're making believe that you're just kidding, but go back and re-read what sdp posted on the subject, in the other thread.

Dude, if you're going to be a wiseass, you'll have to be more clever. I suggest spending a bit more time developing your wiseass posts. Remember, everyone is reading those posts and judging you by them. You have a long way to go before you're Rush Limbaugh's equal. You need to keep at it.

To answer your question yes medication works wonders, at least it has with me. I'm 31 and take medication for ADD, but after talking to my doctor I now only take it when I really have to. It does have some bad side effects, for me anyway, grinding my teeth & a short lasting deppression when I'm coming down off of it. But when I have to get a job out the door, I really have no other choice than to take it. For instance right now I should be working rather than jumping from web page to web page. In other word if you need it take it - sometimes its the only way I can finish a project.
