My cousin is pregnant, well she's been pregnant, but she's in the hospital because of something called a urinary infection. I don't neccessarily know what that is...? my mom said she had that when she was pregnant with me. But that still didn't answer my question what it was. She didn't mind mentioning that I gave her the most interesting pregnancy... So, any idea? And is my cousin going to be ok? I'm really worried about her and I don't want anything bad to happen her or the baby. Oh yeah and it's a boy. Yay!

Is she going to be ok?

The subject of urinary tract infections comes up a lot. They're rarely serious, and are easily cleared up with antibiotics. They can be caused by a number of things. Nothing to worry about.

thanks

Urinary tract infections are nothing lol, they can only become a subject of great concern if you let it sit for too long where it spreads to you bladder and then there's nothing good about that. A UTI basically means that some bacteria got up the urethra, and as Stevey said some antibiotics take care of that. Lol just bring her some cranberry juice when you visit her. When i had my first UTI it was painful and i went to the emergency room, pretty annoying...then the doc gave me pills to relieve the pain and they turned my pee BRIGHT orange, which was kinda fun
-
then the doc gave me pills to relieve the pain and they turned my pee BRIGHT orangeYou sure it wasn't the antibiotic that did that? Maybe a sulfa drug?
-
Nope, he even told me that the pain relievers would do that...the pills themselves are dark blue or dark green. I can give you the name if you want. For every subsequent uti i took just an antibi, and pee remained the same.
-
Interesting. What was the pain reliever?
-
takes out bottle ok so the pills are dark brown, called Phenazopyridine HCl.
-
It looks like they gave you the right stuff. It even has its own Web site.In reply to:Your urine may turn a red-orange or brown; this effect is harmless.
-
Hon, don't worry about it, your cousin and the baby will be fine. Urinary tract infections are very common throughout pregnancy..........and easily cleared up........i remember having at least one with each of my three pregnancies.
-
Niiiftyyy!
-
thanks, now I'm relieved I was just worried because I heard she was in a lot of pain.
-
Urine infections can cause a lot of pain, high temperatures and fevers, but usually they are easily diagnosed and easily treated. Its very scary when you have anything wrong with you when your pregnant, for you and your family, and i can totally understand why you were concerned. How is she now, have you heard? I hope she is feeling better. hugs

She's ok now. She's out of the hospital and still kicking.
-
She had her baby and named him Shawn. Yay! He's so cute.
