My grandpa died of cancer just before my baby was born so he never got to meet him. It really dissapointed me. But I am afraid that either me or my baby is going to have cancer. Oh yes he died of Lukeima. So I am afraid that either me or my baby is going to have Lukeima. Please tell me if I am just a big worry wart or if there is some possibilty.

**There is always a possibility of ANYONE getting cancer, no matter if they have or havn't had relative who had had it.........the risk is increased a little in certain types of cancers, if family members have had it, for instance, i am at a greater risk of breast cancer since my mum had it before she was 50!
Saying that, i don't worry about it, whats the point, i can't do anything about it, and worrying WHEN or IF its gonna happen is a waste of my time.
There is no point worrying about things you can't change, enjoy your life and your baby, he wouldn't want his death to make you worry like this i'm sure. **

Thanks......I think that I will stop worring about it so much. But it is hard to get it out of my head. But I will try my hardest to stop worring about it so much.

Yea if everyone worried about every little possibility of anything. Our lives would be consumed by worrying

Cancer is a very common way for elderly people to die, because the risk increases as you get older, and treatments for most cancers are less effective than treatments for many of the diseases that used to carry off a lot of old people.
There are some leukaemias that have a genetic component, but they usually appear young. Childhood leukaemia used to kill quite a lot of young people, but fortunately it's one of the cancers that now have a good cure rate. Since your grandfather got it in old age, it almost certainly wasn't a genetic one.
