i know that taking birth control pills keeps pregnancy from happening as well as get rid of acne. so it's a big plus for me! but i would prefer to use the patch rather than the pill since it just seems easier to handle. but does both the pill and the patch come with the same exact benefits? will the patch help get rid of acne like the pill does?

Birth Control Patch and Acne

Birth control pills and the patch (Ortho-Evra) offer the same contraceptive effects. I believe that only Ortho Tri-Cyclen and one other pill (don't know the name) are approved by the FDA to counter acne, but there's no reason not to suspect that other drugs (including the patch) would have a similar effect. The pill counteracts acne by suppressing the release of certain androgens from the ovary. The patch is delivering the same hormones as the normal pills (estrogen and progestin), but it just delivers them in a different way. I think you'll probably get the same acne benefits, but you might check around the web (Ortho-McNeils site, for instance)
