Alright so I want to bulk up and gain muscle. I started working out a month and a half ago and in this time I've gone from 145 lbs - 160 lbs. I'm 17 (male) 6'1. My problem is, I'm working out, I had a trainer for a short while, I'm not seeing any real results. My belly looks a bit chubbier and that's about it. I don't want to keep drinking these protein shakes and eating complex carbs, meat, etc. if this is going to just slump in my belly. I kill myself at the gym too, I push myself 'til I feel like I'm going to die and the first couple weeks I was sore as hell. I keep going up on the weight on the machines and I keep getting heavier, but when I look at myself I never see any results except for a little extra baggage now in my belly. WTF. So yes, I'm confused as to what I should do. Any tips on how to bulk up and gain muscle without getting a bit of a belly? Is that part of the process? I workout 3 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) do I need to be there more? Any help appreciated,

Thanks,so right now I should focus on eating and gaining the weight, etc and in the spring start cutting? At the end of my workout should I run on the treadmill for 20 mins or is that going to distract from gaining weight? Thanks,

Sounds good, I'm meeting my trainer in an hour so I'll run it by him, too. My main concern is doing some cardio at the end of my workout, instead of killing myself, I'll just work myself near death and then kill myself on a treadmill but at the same time I'm just worried that any food I have stored for bulking up will get burned out on the treadmill. Let me know what you think, and thanks for the help so far!

One final question,
I usually have like 2 sodas a day. Should I cut soda out completely, or is my metabolism just burning it off? I wonder if the soda is giving me a bit of a belly? -
Even I can tell you that soda needs to be cut out completely

With your goals, you should fill a gallon bottle of water in the morning, and take it with you. Finish it by bed time...watch the belly disappear.
That's exactly what I do. Not only is it cheaper, but it's the next best thing to do if you want to keep the weight off.

Damn, because I don't have any fat whatsoever anywhere else, the soda has to be a good chunk of the problem. Okay, I'll cut it out completely. I'll wait a couple weeks and be back with an update. Thanks so much everyone,

Coming back a little early, only been two days off all sugary drinks (Soda, Lattes, Energy Drinks, etc) and been drinking a gallon jug of water both days and doing some cardio at the gym and already I can see a (slight) difference. I don't want to jinx myself but it made me excited and more motivated to keep going. I'll be back when I have more updates. Now that I think about it, I should of done Before/After pictures... Oh well,

Yea, you're right on the money Helms. I cut out the bad stuff from my diet and I've already seen HUGE results in weight, and my energy level...other than the after-lunch bulge, I can keep the belly at bay, lol.
