I've had an ongoing problem with cystitis for a loooong time now. Last time I went to the doctor he said to bring in a urine sample next time I had an attack to "see what we're dealing with". Few weeks later I had one of the worst bouts of it I've ever had in my life. I spent 5 hours straining to get a little dribble of this lovely cloudy, LUMPY urine into a pot so I could send it off and was told to ring back in a day or two. A week later they said the results still weren't ready yet as nothing had grown. Another week after that I was told the results came back fine.I'm no doctor so correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't spend 5 hours crying in pain to pass some lumpy urine for someone to tell you that it's fine. It's not fine. It's excruciating and it has lumps. It's not fine!Point being, do you think the test might have just screwed up? I would have at least expected them to have found that the nitrites were sky high but I'm not even sure they tested it. Anyone else has tests for cystitis? What did they find, if anything?

Cystitis test came back "fine" =/

It sounds like all they tested for was bacteria - and perhaps even that wasn't done well. It can happen that a pathology lab, under pressure with too many samples coming in, just throws some down the sink and reports a negative result. It's fraud, but it does happen.

The past week has been just horrific with cystitis and I was having some back pain on one side too so I went back to the doctors and guess what. The test wasn't fine at all. In fact, all three tests I put in over the space of the past year came back with bacteria but no-one told me. Now I have a kidney infection. Thank you NHS.The doctor I saw yesterday told me that since I was suffering from cystitis as a child, I should have been checked for physical abnormalities in the kidney a long time ago since at that age, it's likely to be a structural problem. Again, would have been appreciated 15 years ago.... Anyway, got some answers, on new meds and have an ultrasound coming up so we'll see what that shows up.Moral of the story: If you know something is wrong and the doctors do nothing, pester until you get an answer.
