I started my final year in school a few weeks ago. Everyday I have to bring a hell of a lot of books to school with my, aside from copies and notepads. On Tuesday, I felt a pain in the left side of my lower back, in the place where, from Biology class, I picked up our left kidney is located when I was putting my backpack on. Just to clarify, I never have it slung over one shoulder, it's always on both. Today on my way home I felt a pain on my lower right side in conjunction with the left side pain.Since I got back to school, I haven't really been eating a lot. I drink about half a 750ml of water during the day (thats the size of my bottle), a cup of coffee in the morning (about 6am), sometimes a chocolate bar during the day, and finally when I get home, a small bowl of rice or a salad. Could this be the reason for the pain? Or is it the bag?Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance.

Kidney or Back Pain....

It sounds like back pain to me. Does it feel muscular at all? When you touch that area, is it much more painful? Are you having any problems passing urine?Aside from all this, you really should be eating more. Celebrate the fact that you're not in a 3rd world country and have a little more to eat than a bowl of rice

Thank you Amy. About the food, I do know that, it's just that I get home very late. As for the pain, it soesn't feel like it's my muscles, when I touch it, it does hurt more. I'm having no problems with passing urine. I think I'll see how it goes for a two or three more weeks, and try to lighten my bag. If it does'nt improve by then I'll try do something more about it. Thank you again.

You might want to try some back exercises too. Hugging knees to chest, bring your legs (straight) to you while laying down, half push-ups, knee rolls (rocking your knees side to side on your back), and arching and hollowing your back. I went to the doctor for back pain and after an ultrasound showing my kidneys were clear, hence being given a load of back exercises to do. Good luck
