I heard that having a phimosis increases the penile cancer risk. Now my question is: Is this risk ONLY increased when you get infections like balanitis or is this risk alsoincreased when you have no problems at all?I'm concerned about this because I had a phimosis til I was 20. Before this time I could basically not clean the glans. But I also never had a balanitis. I was able to remove the phimosis due to stretching and after I could pull back the foreskin there also wasn't much smegma there which astounished me.Do I still have a greater risk now because of having a phimosis for so long?

How dangerous is a phimosis?

No, the risk arises from decomposing smegma irritating the glans tissue. Cells in tissues that are irritated are more often dividing, which is when they are most liable to have their DNA damaged by carcinogens. Since you can now clean there your higher-risk period is ended, presumably without anything bad having happened; and since you didn't have much smegma the risk was probably not high anyway. In even the worst case I don't think the risk is very high.

Thanks. How can you tell if cells are irritated?Sometimes my glans looks a bit strange. Sometimes it's blue and sometimes red and it also gets wrinkles especially after having an erection and then going back to normal. I don't know how a glans should normally look like and if a change in color is normal.

Those are normal colours, all depending on the oxygenation of the blood near the surface. Becoming wrinkled is normal too.If your glans is irritated it would be sore to the touch.

Ok thanks.
