My gf and I have been dating for a year and a half.About 3 months ago she noticed a small bump right below the outside of her vagina. It was tiny. She had a papsmear at the gyno about a month earlier.Shes away at school so i cant really keep an eye on it.One day about a month ago I noticed it was probably 1/4 inch long and not a little bump anymore. Its the same color as the skin around it( a pinkish color).I thought it could have been a skin tag.It looks like a really long mole except the same color as the skin around itFor the past couple weeks its been shrinking. It is back down to a little bump again.I told her to go to a std clinic to get it checked out but she is busy with work.I finally got her to commit to next week to go.Any thoughts on what this might be?Will they be able to diagnosis it even though a papsmear failed to find this? What are the chances of no signs for a over a year ?

Possible HPV?

It's possible but hard to tell. A PAP smear is not a test for HPV itself, only for abnormalities caused by things like HPV and then only when it has to do with the cervix. So an external HPV infection will not necessarily be detected by a PAP smear. Usually these things are visually diagnosed.A simple test to be done at home is to soak something with white vinegar and hold it on the affected area for a while.. If it turns white then there is a good chance it is HPV.
