You know it's true. It's not an illness, it's just a result of poor parenting/lack of self-control. If
Anyone who has "ADD" or "ADHD" or "DADAAHD" is just hyper.
If it's an actual illness, why is it that there aren't any adults with it?
It's just a coverup for the fact that parents these days are poor excuses. The reason Columbine, etc. happened wasn't because of video games, or Marilyn Manson, or anything else like that. It's because their parents just didn't pay any attention to them. If they were building pipe bombs in their OWN BEDROOMS, where the FUCK were the parents?
Don't have children. You'll probably fuck up just as badly.
P.S. I know that this part pertains to the wrong forum, but if you let a male friend suck your dick, or you suck their dick, or either of you fucks the other up the ass, YOU ARE HOMOSEXUAL. Why even bother saying "I'm not gay"? YOU'RE HAVING GAY SEX, DON'T TRY TO DENY IT. Not that there's anything wrong with homosexuality, but that's just being naive saying that.
This is to the idiot who had the audacity to write their views, obviously not knowing the first thing about ADHD. Until you have lived with a child who suffers from this do not dare go on line to spout off your ridiculous uneducated views. I hope to hell when you have a child, that this never happens to you or your family. Children are born with this and good parents recognize these problems and do everything in their power to get their children help so that they can live lives of normalcy. Hey, I have and idea, go and get yourself a PHD or you can shut the hell up about things that you have no idea about.
Hey dumb ass-there are adults with ADHD!
You need to educate yourself! You're showing your stupidity! I guess since children have chicken pox, but adults don't, that means it's not a REAL either.
So, Adults don't have ADHD? Well then, why is it that I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 28... and I'm still definitely dealing with it now that I'm at age 33?
(Go ahead and call me lazy... I have my degree in Chemistry... it just took me a few extra years of hard work to get there... while going to school full time, working a full time job and 2 part time jobs...)
I have been working as a full time chemist since I graduated back in '92. I dare anyone to call me lazy. If you do, you OBVIOUSLY don't have a clue.
I've had to deal with nasty comments all my life regarding my outbursts (Yes, I have a chronic case of Athlete's tongue), daydreaming (what did you just say?), and horrible timing.
You have no idea the RELIEF I had once I realized there was a REASON (NOT an excuse) for the "way I am."
I don't consider it a disease or disorder. It's simply a difference in brain wiring. Unfortunately, the way most people have evolved, (the "normal" or as I call them "boring" people... I guess this includes you, Karo), the ADHD way of thinking and acting is often not accepted.
Now that I know more about myself, I am more informed about the type of work I should be doing. ADDers are GREAT when doing research! (We look for things that the "normal" people would never think to look for).
ADHD is not an excuse (that small minority of folks who DO use it as an excuse give the rest of us a bad name).
Now... as for trying to blame my parents... well... they're more than likely ADHD too... (actually, my mother was ADD without the hyperactivity... I get the hyperactivity from my dad). Neither of them were diagnosed... and since my mother passed away 13 years ago, I can only make an educated guess from my memories of her... and from my father's comments about her.
I'm still trying to figure out where the homosexuality comment is relevant to this topic. (Yes, I do know some Gay ADDers... I guess they could be called GADDers.)
Anyway, please educate yourself before you prove your ignorance to the entire world.
It is nice to hear your story. You really seem to have accepted who and what you are and are using it to your advantage. I agree with all you said, I gould not say it better. I was diagnosed when I was 20, and could nolonger handle college as well as I wanted to. With help I was able to get my degree in 4 years and am now a software developer.
In general many ADDers do "grow out of it" during puberty, and many others just find ways of copeing (such as drinking lots of coffee and using the caffeine instead of medication such as Ritalin. But some people are not able to live their life the way they want to without help.
Ya know, people like you Karo really really fucking piss me off. I was talking to a girl explaining how I'm bipolar and I used to be psycotic and she just sayed "shut up, you're just making all that up." I hate when people say that there is no such thing as ADD, OCD, SAD, schizophrenia, or any mental disorder. Those are just ognorant assholes. I dont get their logic. What are you trying to say?? That nothing can go wrong with the human brain? Are you proposing that you think that an epilectic just decides to have voilent spazms and seizures just cuz he/she is either bored or just feels like doing that? Honestly, I have some advice for you Karo:
Get the wax out of your ears, open your eyes, get your thumb out of your ass, wake up, get a life, grow the fuck up, and get out into the world for fuck's sake!!!
You have a lot to learn Karo, and obviously everyone else here knew what they were talking about. (btw April that was a good call on the chickenpox ) ADD/ADHD has nothing to do with bad parenting, I know a number of people with either of the two who come perfectly humane families, including myself. Ok so maybe ADD isn't exactly a true "disorder" but there's no denying that there are a number of people in this world with relatively short attention spans. For a moment let's just assume ADD 'is' genetic as has been proposed and compare it to skin colour, which is definitely genetic. Ok right now the sun shines on your skin and your skin produces melanin to protect you from the UV rays. Now melanin makes your skin dark so that must mean that all black people are normal, and all whites have melanin deficit disorder right? Not usually our way of thinking is it? we consider both forms normal, it's just that white people have less melanin in their skin, but it is still produced and functions in the same way as it does in blacks. Likewise people with ADD do in fact have a normally functioning brain (which is why nothing appears to be wrong, and the term minimal brain damage/dysfunction is no longer used). They simply have a shorter attention span based on the rate at which such brain functions are occurring. But just as white people can use sunblock to help protect them from UV light, so people with ADD can use Ritalin (and other medications) to increase their attention span.

Don't sprout about ADD/ADHD kids til you have one yourself. I have a 10 year old son who is one. He was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago, and the Ritalin does wonders for him. We still have our bad days, but most times he is good. And the medicos out there must realise it is a disease as well. I did an online test to test myself as an adult. There were about 60 questions. If you got 20 or more above a certain figure, you may have had it as a child. I got 16. Some of the signs in an adult are mucking up in class as a kid, and easily distracted at work.
hey karo, if you dont know shit about shit than you shouldnt give your opinion. my brother is 29 years old and he has add, now wouldnt you say that 29 is pretty far into adulthood? dumbass
my son has just been diagnosed with add we are trying to find the right medicine for him. it is not bad parenting to get help it is if you don't get the child help so if you think your child has add get your child help or it will mess them up in school like it is my child. now he is getting the help he needs. For karo you don't know nothing about add so shut up.
wtf??? ritalin? sunblock? snagglepuss i know you thought long and hard about that analogy but its not too good of one!
and yes, ADD/ADHD is a true disorder caused by an underactivity of the frontal part of the brain... this is why ritalin helps it, it stimulates that area... and it most definitely is genetic...
My Dad had five penises, and you do not need to tell you, because you know for sure.
Hello, you ignorant excuse for a human. I'm a 49 year old mother of five, four of whom have either ADD or ADHD. #5 most likely had it too, but he died, so we'll never know. I was diagnosed as bipolar in 1995, and after a few years of drugs and psychotherapy, I determined they must be wrong. My "mania" never lasted weeks--only hours. I finally convinced the shrink to "look again" and --surprise-- it is only ADD. I went through hell as a child. Nobody knew what ADD was in the 1960's. I felt so strange, I actually thought I was from another planet. Now my children and I are helped with a variety of drugs, the most useful being Adderall ER. My 13 year old can't miss one dose without the entire world wanting to strangle him. If he takes it, he is an "A" student with a brilliant mind, keen sense of humor, and gentle, loving nature. He notices no difference in himself--nor do I in myself when I take it, except for the fact that I no longer annoy people. Thank God in every prayer that you don't have it, but my personal opinion is that we are those blessed.
Sincerely, Kjirstin , Utah (I removed your last name and city, as we'd prefer not to have folks get that specific! Thanks for a great post!
I totally disagree! As a parent of a child with ADD, it's quite easy to see that in fact a great deal of it is inherited. My son's father also was ADD in school, and did poorly because of it. In fact to this day, he still has problems at work, etc., because of the lack of concentration ADD causes. Children with ADD get all the love, attention, and discipline as regular kids do. In fact, probably even more so, as their parents try to help them deal with the problem. All these kids (and adults) really want is to be like everybody else, and not have this label put on them.
