I know that these suggestions are being listened to, but I really hope that there is actually something that the Mods/Admins can do to help. The technical issues are an annoyance to many, but they are far worse to a lot of people. People who come online trying to find help. people at their lowest, people barely fighting back the tears from the frustration or hatred or fear of their own life. This is a place to help people, but everyday it is getting harder and harder to post problems or solutions, the technical issues need to be fixed as soon as possible. This is a whole hearted plea to anyone who can help, far too much can go through someone's mind in the five minutes that it takes to load a single page here.
-
Tell me about it, I started bawling trying to post something to you earlier! It just wouldn't go.....
-
A very very good point, bob.

Hmmm, maybe, just maybe, we could let some member have access to the HTML functions in their posts? Maybe restrict it to Veterans if thats possible, or maybe do it on a person by person basis. So someone requests it, Mods vote, and the privilege is given or not.

I hear you! Thanks for alerting me to the issues going on here. I am in the process of researching the problems and finding a solution. At a minimum, I plan on updating the server (which really hasn't been updated since 2002), as well as updating the board software. I hope to have some solutions within the next few days - so hang in there. In terms of finances - a2a is here not to make money, but to provide a place where folks can share their private concerns. Of course, we do need cash to pay the bills - hence the annoying ads which offset the high band-width costs incurred by our popularity. That said, I like some of the other fund-raising ideas, like t-shirts. Perhaps some contest for shirt verbiage and images? Finally, as a cool time, plus a way to make a little bling for the site, what do you think about an annual a2a get-together? I can't decide if this would be a good idea, or a really bad idea? We could charge some small fee and meet somewhere in the world to hang out for a couple days, maybe get some different folks speaking on interesting topics related to health, sexuality, and life.Or, will this be a nightmare of personality clashes, attempted hook-ups, and underage drinking resulting in a big mess, or worse.Your thoughts (while I get the technical issues fixed)...Jon

OOOHHH id love to meet people on this site!! does anyone wana come to the rock?
-
Oh wow, you replied to me, I feel so honoured!! Tis great to hear that there will be some good updates to the site, thank you in advance! And I'd be well up for a t-shirt contest, altho as I said before, some people might not want to walk around with a t-shirt that says "AfraidToAsk helped me with my yeast infection". But I suppose the t-shirts don't really have to be related to A2A.As for a get-together, not sure how the numbers would be but I'm sure that there are lots of people on here who would like to chat in person. If there was gonna be a meet-up I would suggest having it in Canada cause then if I chose to go, atleast I could drink. Or maybe Scotland, cause then I could eat...
-
I think the annual a2a get together would be a good idea. As long as we stress that we won't tolerate hook ups, underage drinking, etc. and that it's strictly "business." I think it could work.
-
My first time out of Ohio and it would be an a2a get together.
-
first, a pleasure to meet you (virtually)Funny you should mention the get together as this has recently been a topic discussed (quite casually) between myself and a few members. No plans, just bouncing an idea or two around for the fun of it.>>Or, will this be a nightmare of personality clashes, attempted hook-ups, and underage drinking resulting in a big mess, or worse.god, I hope so!
-
As long as we stress that we won't tolerate hook ups, underage drinking, etc. and that it's strictly "business."well, kidding aside, you'd have to have that policy in writing if you were to call it any type of official function... just for liability reasons. Of course the reality is that it will hapen and no one can stop it.
-
The only downside i can see is that the get-together will no doubt be in the US where the majority of the people come from who frequent the boards, and that im afraid will rule out most of the members from the UK, i know i couldn't afford to go cries but other than that i think it would be a good idea, its nice to put names to faces, it must be even better to put faces to people in real life
-
yeah, I definately know that is the major down side. Another is just money in general. I'm sure there are members who couldn't afford to go even if it was just a couple hours away
-
My thought is, there is alot of flirting and such here, but since I have been here, there is only one member that tried the hook up thing. Most of us would just enjoy meeting members that we have become friends with. I also doubt that there would be too many youngsters, because of the parent issue. And do we REALLY want to announce an ata meeting and have that one psycho, who thinks we didn't help him show up to gun us all down? I know, a bit overboard, but in this day and age...Also, lets not forget the safety net of annonimity here. After all, some of the topics are things we can't/don't talk to people we know about. How might it change things?I absolutely would like to meet people from here. But I have to admit, I think of a handful of regulars, people I share im conversations with, pm and such, but I am sure there are more that I forget about when I get the warm fuzzies about an ata meeting...

I am in the process of researching the problems and finding a solution.I assume you have full access to the server, the one that hasn't been updated since 2002.The server is very sick. While you're figuring out what you want to do, could you give the administrators full access? There's really not much to lose, and some tweaks to the database software's parameters might allow things to function reasonably well again.
