I cant believe what I just heard. Please stop giving advice becuase you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. You cant turn fat into muscle or vica versa - they're 2 different tissues. It just doesnt work that way.If you that overweight then you're most probably an endomorph. The best way for an endomorph to lose weight is to gain muscle. You should also run and do cardio, but if you dont get a solid muscle base it's going to be hard to lose weight. Extra muscle burns more fat. Endomorph's naturally have slower metabolisms so extra muscle would help a great deal. There's really no way to spot reduce. You're just going to haveta keep a healthy diet & normal weightlifting routine. When you drop your overall body fat level the fatty area you're trying to reduce will drop also. At your age theres not much need to worry. It's common for guys to get "man-boobs" temporarily through puberty. It almost always goes away. You're not too young to lift weights. In reality, you're never too young to lift weights if you do it properly. Just dont try to overload yourself & do medium reps w/ medium weight. And in some cardio & a healthy diet & you'll be fine in no time.

I'm a fucking idiot? You dumbass I'm majoring in keniosology; I'm a personal trainer; I was a collegiate powerlifter for two years winning state in '03; and I have trained two seperate high school teams (ranging from 14-18 years old) to state championships and you call me an idiot?boy, you better check yourself.
-
Eat right, work out to increase your metabolism, and cardio will do ya lots of good. Good Luck!
-
I'd go with Powerlifter's opinion, just remember, eat right :smirk:
-
thanx for the advice guys
-
np, hope it helps

LOL man you crack me up - you should let me train you. I'd even give you a discount. I'd train you for $40 a session, and I gaurantee you'll never do it your way again.
Explain to me why lifting at 14 is soooooo bad? Whats it do? Show me some medical evidence of your opinions.

I think you both have points but neither is right or wrong. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that: 1. children be well supervised by qualified adults. 2. any weight-training program be appropriate to the child's stage of maturation and assessed objectively by medical personnel. (Proper bone development is one of the key factors to assess.) 3. children avoid weight lifting, power lifting, bodybuilding, and the use of maximal amounts of weight until they have met certain developmental criteria.http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics;107/6/1470

Thats half of what I said - using proper form & technique a 14year old will be fine lifting weights.Heck, you see the "little Tarzan" he's only like 7-8 but been lifting weights for years. It's best to wait until you start puberty, but I would imagine almost all 14 year olds would have started it...
-
LOL what big picture? No use arguin becuase I'm right - thats all there is to it .
-
ive been working out since i posted this and ive lost about 4 pounds, and i dont know if this changes anything about the whole"bad for 14 year olds to work out" but i am almost 6 feet tall and just built really big, and its not like being fat is interfering with my life or anything like that, i play sports, hike all the time, swim bike, everything but my man boobs just wont go away and i dont know why
-
well, if you want some kind of motivation, I used to have manboobs when I was in middle school. I worked out really hard in the gym and lost 40 pounds of fat including those pesky peck flabs. I was about 14 or 15 then.

look you lil f'er, how old are you? 16,17, maybe 18???? From what I understand you dont even have a high school education yet, and you're beginning to piss me off with your ignorance. Now shut the hell up, becuase I was trained by the best strength coach in the state. I know what I'm talkin bout lil man.
Lifting at a young age has higher risk of injury, but if done properly, injuries could be held to a minimum. A child lifting before he hits puberty wont see the results of an adolescent becuase he doesn't have the testosterone levels yet. HOWEVER, a child lifting isnt going to cause problems in the future if he does it right.
The big picture - here it is: the younger a child starts physical exercise the more he'll br prone to make a habit of it. If you get fit & stay fit at a younger age you will have far less problems as you become an adult and get even older. If you were a prime athlete in your teen years, it will be easier for you to stay in shape as you get older.
Now theres the big picture bitch. Explain what "big picture" you were talkin about! Oh wait, you cant becuase he have no idea what the hell you're talking about, but you like to pop off & run that mouth like most internet p****** do! Now stop arguin with me & try to help the kid. No wait, dont try to help the kid....
-
Well technically 14 is a little young to be lifting weights. At that age if you do it improperly and intensely it can affect growth.
-
OK, I've had enough of your ignorant lil ass. After this post I'm going to stop wasting my time fuckin w/ ya.It's been scientifically proven that lifting weights at a young age WONT stunt growth. Another words if the kid is 5'6" & not through growing, regardless of if he lifts or not he's going to get taller. The old weight lifting too young will stunt growth is a MYTH. However, it's also been proven that extreme weight lifters & runners actually use a little height after years of training - only about 1/4" but...Just becuase you go to the weight room doesnt mean you'll 'gain' weight. I knew of a guy that was that way, obese but never lifted, he went into the weightroom & never lost a pound for the first two months, he didnt gain either yet his pant size steadily dropped. About 2 months after solid training, he started dropping weight from just lifting weights. Increased muscle mass speeds up the metabolism & it's the best way for endomorphs to lose weight. He should do cardio & eat right also, but lifting weights would be extremely helpful. And again I was right. You had no idea what you were talkin about with your "big picture". Just shut up kid, I know what I'm talkin about. Take notes.

Unforgetto, I would think a personal trainer would know more about this that a 17 year old. 7th and 8th grade football players have weightlifting during the summer at my school. 14 is NOT too young to lift weights. There are 13 and probably some 12 year olds in the 7th grade. When done right, it is not harmfull.
-
let him talk his shit. he prolly has no idea what an endomorph is - much less how to train one.

What school are yuo going to?
