This is being asked because of acne - which is primarily caused by hormones (not dirt / diet / etc.).So would it be better to masturbate to relieve the sexual tension (calm hormones?) or would it be better to try and avoid thinking about sex altogether (out of sight, out of mind) ?

Is it better to do it to calm hormones ?
-
I don't think either actually make any difference to your hormone levels.
-
Maybe the question you are trying to ask is:Do sexual tensions within oneself cause acne?
-
I think that's what he's asking too...and the answer is no, it has nothing to do with acne.
-
I did read in the FAQs about it not having to do with acne... let me ask this then (forget acne for a sec)... does masturbation relieve/calm hormones in general (after you've succeeded and you do it frequently enough)? Does it build up if you don't release the sexual tension ? Is it even possible to moderate hormone levels by not thinking about sex?

Testosterone is the hormne you are talking about - its the one that makes us guys so damned horny all the time. Most testosterone levels are regulated by the Pituitary gland at the base of the brain, so to answer your question, the majority of testosterone levels cannot be controlled by anything you do. Its all handled subconsciously by the brain.
However, there are certain things you can do to slightly change your testosterone levels. Exercise has been proven to increase testosterone slightly. Plenty of sleep and low stress also increases testosterone. As does eating a good, healthy diet.
As for abstaining to increase or decrease testosterone, there's not a lot of research on this. I found one study done in China where they measured testosterone levels in a bunch of guys everyday, and asked them to abstain from any ejaculations for 2 weeks, and compared their T-levels to another group who were ejaculating at least once a day, everday. What they found was that the guys who didn't ejaculate, had only slightly higher levels of testosterone for the first 5-6 days. Then for some unexplained reason, the guys who continued to abstain had a huge sudden increase in testosterone by the 6th or 7th day, then it returned to normal again, only slightly higher than the guys who were masturbating daily.
I've had acne since I was 12, and I still have a mild case of adult acne, as I'm nearly 30. I know they say it doesn't matter, but I swear I notice an increase in acne if I masturbate or ejaculate frequently. I've abstained from ejaculations for several weeks/months plenty of times, so I can make direct comparisons. Don't know why though.

It also makes your body create a larger amount of seratonin (the 'happy' chemical). however there are so many things that do that (going out in the sun for 20 minutes at least each day, etc, etc, etc) that this really aint no biggie.

Is not the case, but are some persons that hormons to low, for that you can check your hormons from home.
