I heard the stump left from the umbilical cord will fall off a week after the child is born. But I'm 18 and I still see a little bit left. It's not sticking out but you can clearly see it deep inside. Is this normal and is it safe to remove it manually?

i doubt its the umbilical...........it starts to die as soon as its cut, i don't think it would last 18 years! rolls eyes

If you are really worried, go to the doctors.

well, there are Innie and Outie belly buttons. Most people have Innies, which there bellie button sink in like a bowl. But there some people in which the doctor cuts the cord wrong (yes this is true my health teacher said it) and it causes the belly button to have extra skinn attached and the belly button sticks out a little (not much at all but different looking than a Innie) I have a Outie, and if your not famiar whith the two differet types of belly buttons, then you might have a Outie, which is completey normal.

i dont know what it could be, though it is prob not the umbillical cord... when i had joe and Kai the docs checked that after it had been cut, it all fell away properly, and on visits to the nurse etc, it was checked for infection. if ur umbillical didnt for some reason come away then it would (i think) have been noticed by the docs as a baby.but go docs and check it out anyway, it may be nothing, but it could be something.take care
