When I'm working out, what are the benefits of drinking large amounts of water. Will it help alot? If so I will begin drinking much more than i already do.

Yup it helps a lot because it keeps your muscles, well your whole body, hydrated. Hydration is an essential part of working out.

It's good to stay well-hydrated, but there's no need to overdo it. Drink a bottle of water while you're working out.

you should drink about 4 pints of water a day (more if working out) this helps to reduce salt and other toxins in the blood which lead to water retention and other illnesses

What you should do is drink enought to keep your urine clear. That is what you wont, you wont your urine to be clear and it is telling you that you are hydrated. Also water makes you heavy while it is in you but you lose more weight by staying hydrated. It takes a lot of energy for you body to pee. Not kidding.

Large amounts of water can actually be harmful to your body. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight and divide it in half...that's how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day.

are you seriously saying drinking too much water can cause some damage to your body? ...i had no idea, whats the max limit, i drink at least 2 litres of water a day = 8 glasses of water....will i be at risk of some sort of damage if i drink more?

There is no max limit. It depends upon your body, how many electrolytes you get (sodium, potassium, iodine, etc), and what kind of habits you have (running or drinking alcohol to name a few). This isn't a concern with most people. Drinking 2L/day will not overhydrate you. If you do much activity, you may even want to increase that a bit. I bring about 1.5L of water and .4L of juice to school every day. I often have to refill my water bottle if I spend a significant amount of time in track or at the fitness center after school. I drink a lot water in the morning and later in the day as well. Keep in mind that I also sweat out a lot of water (and electrolytes) and compensate in my diet by consuming more calories, nutrients, and electrolytes than most people would.
It's most common in endurance athletes who try to get lots of water before a race by constantly drinking water. This can be effective IF high levels of electrolytes are consumed as well before a race, but it's not a common occurence.
