I know I'm always comming up with crazy ideas about what I want to do (trips, moving out, any silly thing that pops in my mind) but lastnight I decided I needed to actually get up and do something with my life. So I've decided to buy a car when my tax return (what ever it's called) check comes in, and start looking into financial aid for college this next semester. What am I going to major in? I have no clue but I'm at least going to get all the basics done and once that is over with I'll go from there. I know I want to get out and travel and do all sorts of things, but I think I should really look into college before I start globe trotting lol I had my self thinking that the way my life is right now is the best it's ever going to be but it doesn't have to be that way. I have the choice of making it better, and I'm going to. Don't know why I'm making a post about this but I just felt like sharing... didn't have anyone else to talk to about it so I thought I'd talk to you guys. Right now the only person(s) rooting for me is my sister and my friend Frankie... that really makes a person feel good.Anyone know how to go about looking into financial aid?

Thinking of buying a car...
-
Financial aid for college? You can get a student loan, or you can talk to a financial aid counselor at the college you want to go to.
-
You'll probably want to start preparing for the SAT or ACT. Are you thinking in-state or out of state?[If you have a big enough tax refund to buy a car with it, you're paying way too much tax, and you need to tell your employer that you need to raise your number of exemptions (you need to re-do your W-4 form).]

Unless you like having a large tax return. A lot of people use it as a sort of savings plan. And treat themselves once a year to something special.
-
Well I'm not buying a "new" car, I'm looking into pre-owned vehicles. I'm not getting a huge amount of money back, but what I am getting back is a little less than $1000 and I'm planning on using that as a down payment. I can't afford to buy a "new" car on my salary, I don't make enough for that lolI'm also checking into FAFSA (thanks Jon). I feel like an idiot because I have no clue what I'm doing or how to do it... I should have had all of this done in high school while I had the chance. I'm planning on looking into a Junior college that is about an hour away from where I live to start out and hopefully transfer to a university once I have the basics done.>>SAT or ACTWhere can I get information about those tests?
-
I would strongly recommend a junior college where u can at least start out going for an associates. Its very cheap and it helps you make decisions of where you want to go from there. Talk to people at your school about financial aid or loans. they should also have all the information you need about sat's and act's. as far as the car goes, do you not have a car at all? is your car in bad condition? if you dont absolutely NEED a car, save your money to pay for school

I know I'm always comming up with crazy ideas about what I want to do (trips, moving out, any silly thing that pops in my mind) I know nothing about tests, or taxes...............but the ideas you have are NOT crazy or silly, they are the kinda things that you should be thinking about, if you want to do anything at all with your life............you should try and do ALL of em hugs

Unless you like having a large tax return. A lot of people use it as a sort of savings plan. And treat themselves once a year to something special. If you like having the government hold your money interest-free, then it's fine. It's not a good investment. But if you're planning to spend it as soon as you get it, you're probably not thinking about it as an investment anyway. But if you carry a credit card balance, it's a very bad idea to let the government hang onto the money.K-L> I'm planning on looking into a Junior college that is about an hour away from where I liveYou need to check with their admissions office to find out what the costs are, what the admission requirements are (they may not need SAT or ACT scores), and for guidance with financial aid.The College Board Web site has information on the SAT, but not much on test preparation. Way back when, I used a Barron's test prep book. There must be better resources available now. But check with the college before bothering with that.I assume you will move if you start college there.

I've been out of high school for two years (it'll be two years this May) now, so in a way I'm feeling like a loser for not having already figured this stuff out. I didn't get my first job until after I graduated high school in 2004 (my father refused to let me), so I've been working at the same dead end job for nearly two years and I have nothing to show for it. I have a car but it doesn't work because the engine(ms?) is froze so I'm using my mum's car when she isn't. I want to go to college and I can't unless I get myself a car because I can't expect my parents or siblings to drive me back and forth to college everyday or everyother day because they all work full time jobs. I cna't ask that much of them when their time is already streched to the limits as it is. I do plan to go to a junior college until I can get things sorted (as in figure out what I want to do career wise).

Dont feel like a loser, i know plenty of people that took time off before they went back. The important thing is that you have figured out you want to go back. It is useless to look at the past and wish you did things differently. You are here now and you are at a point where not many people go. Many people go work and skip college, and never go back, or go back in their 40's. I saw it all the time in my classes when i went to a junior college. You need to contact your school and they will tell you everything you need to do to get started. Dont worry about it, you'll be fine

One of the advantages of a community college is that you are more likely to recieve personal attention. This could be important for you during the whole admissions/financial aid process. They will hopefully take the time to not only assist you in the process, but also help you understand and feel comfortable about what the heck you are doing....and add me to the list of people who are rooting for you.

In reply to: I know I'm always comming up with crazy ideas about what I want to do Never ever stop with the crazy ideas baby. They're one of your very many charms! I used to have one after the other until they got knocked out of me.It's just recently that I've re-learned their importance and started sprouting a few new ones.

Thank you, that means a lot to me ^_^
