My girlfriend has been on the pill for a while now (probly about 7 months). She takes the pill regularly. We were intimate Wednesday last week, but during that session my condom slipped off. I caught it right away, but not before sticking it in about an inch and there was some pre-cum. Now the problem is my girlfriend strayed from the pill on Tuesday for about 8 hours. But she still took it on Tuesday. Wednesday when she woke up she took another one. Later that night (on Wednesday)about 11:45 pm we had sex and the condom slipped off. But she is worried that because she missed the pill for those 8 hours that it might have had a effect on the effectiveness of the birth control. Now it's a week later and she's having some bad cramps that she never really has. Now my question is did the amount of time in which she strayed from the pill have any effect on the pill or should it still be ok. And would the cramps shes feeling have anything to do with a possible pregnancy even if its only a week later? By the way she should be getting her period next week if all goes well. Thanks

She's probably fine. There is a chance when you stray from your regular timeframe of taking the pill that something could happen though. The cramps however, are not a sign of pregnancy... it's more like a "premenstrual" cramp. If she misses her period by more than a week, get a test.

I hope everything will be fine. I just thought it was unusual for women to have cramps this early before their periods (but I'm also a guy and I'm not the foremost expert on these things), plus, she usually doesn't seem to get cramps as bad as she said they were. Well, I'll keep you posted and hopefully respond with a positive outcome for everyone elses peace of mind. Thanks for your response!!!
