Helms posted this a little while back.http://www.afraidtoask.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=fitness&Number=295557&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1Do that for a month, and you should be nice and fit.

The best thing that you can do to get better at running is run. If you're going to be running in equipment then you may want to try running with a weighted backpack (put weights, rocks, books, water, etc. inside). This will prepare you for the added weight.
You can do exercises to make you stronger, but you should really run if that's what you want to improve. I'd suggest a good combination of short distance and mid-long distance stuff for football. Run distances like 5k+ once or twice a week, and do reps of long sprints like 200m sprints and wind sprints (back and forth between two points, touching one side and turning back and sprinting to the other side over and over again for a set amount of time) a couple times a week.
Those exercises that Helms put up are great too and doing them every week should be a good way to improve full body fitness.

Lunges with 20-25 lb. weights in each hand, forward knee should not extend over toe, and back knee half a grain of salt from the floor.Jump rope. speed rope. alternate 4 beats per foot, then side to side like slolom skiiers, then raise your knees to chest and alternate feet like a rasta jog.stairs, find some and run them. You will see great improvement.
