I'm sure a lot of people want to know, including me, how everyone goes about losing weight. There are several ways people lose weight. Tell us how you lost your weight. Maybe it will help us out with our own problems.I will start by telling my story.I began trying to lose weight after I reached 250 pounds last year. I had been in shape before that and felt horrible being that big because I loved physical activities to death and I knew that my weight would hinder that if I didn't get it under control. So last summer, I ran about 3 to 4 miles a week for about 4 weeks. Coupling running and eating healthier, I've lost a total of 30 pounds since last year. What's your story?

How did YOU lose significant weight?
-
i used to weigh 267lbs. once i got it through my head that i didn't like myself, i tried a lot of different things. after the whole "eat healthy & excersize" thing i did notice a small change (5lbs in 3 weeks) but wanted more. I purchased NutriSystem. After 3 months of eating their food along with tons of fruit and veggies and protein/dairy on the side (AND running for 45 mins atleast 4 times a week with once a week yoga on the side) i lost 77 lbs, weighing at 190. As of now I weigh 143 and am totally happy with myself! I've stopped NutriSystem and just eat A LOT healthier now with whole wheat pasta's and cereal for breakfast with an apple & a glass of OJ. [but, i've had more subway and salads than anything! its put a damper on my budget, but its worth it!]

I can't say its been an easy road to losing weight , when i first met my boyfriend (who is now my husband)i weighed just around 20 stones (280 lbs). I had struggled with my weight since i was little.I've lost 160 lbs since then and i now weigh 120 lbs. I actually went on the atkins diet and had a major lifestyle change. I now jog and swim every day i do yoga and pilates once a week and kickboxing every other day and the gym once a week.I guess my Major diet was when my husband asked me to marry him, i said yes but the truth was there was no way i was marrying him while i was large so i lost the weight so i could get the wedding dress i had dreamed of!. I stuck some not nice pictures of myself on any bars of chocolate in the house so if i was even tempted just looking at the pictures was enough to make myself put it away.

I became a vegetarian.
-
How much did you lose? Most vegetarians I know are overweight.
-
about fifty pounds over time, but that was included with an over all more active life style
-
That's great! I know this vegan who's real skinny, but he drinks alot of beer.
-
It's been a forever since I've lost the weight, about.... five years?and forever since I've had a beer. meanders to fridge to grab one
-
Do you drink only organic beer? This guy does. He also fasts for weeks at a time and does the raw food diet thing. I consider his methods the Al-Qaeda version of dieting, EXTREME.

no, I'm a coors kinda girl

Coors... BLEAHHHH

The heaviest I've been was 260 and I've dropped 60 lbs since then. Currently I lose maybe one to two pounds a week (goal is to hit 130 by October). Anyhow, up until December of last year I didn't do a whole lot in the way of exercise or eating healthy so I don't know how particularly that weight loss occured. However, since then I've changed my eating habits and started exercising. I run seven days a week and eat 3 times a day. My biggest meal is always breakfast and today it was plain yogurt with fresh fruit and granola.
I've always battled my weight and while I was playing sports it wasn't a big issue but after school was over with I didn't keep up with it and so it became a whole yo-yo dieting type thing. With my sister impending wedding and me having to wear a dress there's no way in hell I'm standin in front of 200 people 260 lbs. It's about time I did something to make myself feel better and that's what it's all about.

I had just turned 21 and realized that i was almost 325lbs and I was only 5'10". I knew it was not healthy and I also knew that being so large would not help me to find ladies. After that awakening moment, I set out to loose weight.I basically just looked at weight loss as an energy balance. The only way to get rid of stored energy (fat) was to intake less energy than my body burned. I cut out all of the junk foods and extra fattening foods like cheese, butter, and pop. Along with this I incorporated more exercise which mainly consisted of walking/biking instead of driving. I also went to the gym and worked out, but not as frequently. I stuck with this plan and I now weight 180lbs. I got a little bit to go still, but am much more happy with my body now. I decreased from 2XL shirt size to Large and 44" wast size to 34".

I managed to shed most of it in one summer but it wasn't easy. I did a lot of cardio, and I gave up sodas, sweets, and fried foods. I dropped down to about 165 which was almost to skinny for me. Forcing myself to get active was one of the most rewarding things I've done with my life, I'm happy with my appearance and occasionally a girl will comment on how good I look. I have sense slacked on my diet but I've gained enough muscle to make up for it.

Nothing wrong with coors, perfectly good beer. Uhhh yeah.

If your gonna drink American beer it's the only way to go... sense they stopped making Herman Josephs.
And I think Coors made Herman Josephs.
Hey! Maybe they're finally gonna bring Herman Josephs back... Oh, happy day.

Squats are nice. I lose probably about 40 or so pounds in a couple of months because of dancing though.

Pre-diet: 1000+ calories per day from Snapple iced Tea and Coca-Cola. McDonalds was too often a fixture. No exercise. Weight: 210 pounds. Waist line: 44Currently: I now drink only water. McDonald's comes home once a month or less. I still get my Chinese and Japanese food though. I eat lunch and breakfast now. I eat slowly. You can more accurately assess hunger as you go along. Weight: 189. Waist: 37 Exercise: 20 minutes intense cardio. 20 light-medium (siberian husky needs to be walked) 30 push ups, 50 sit-ups. Goal: ??? 170-175. I lose weight at a rate of approx. 2 pounds per week.Tips: Anaerobic (ie strength training/muscle builing type exercises like weights, sit-ups, push ups etc) exercise is KEY to weight loss. Diet+Cardio exercise will burn muscle. Anaerobic exercise will prevent muscle loss and increase muscle mass/strength (that extra muscle will need to be fed, ergo, it will burn extra calories)Drink water ONLY. What is ultimately more satisfying: Having 16 oz of fruit juice (approx 200-240 calories) or an extra helping of: bread, rice, meat etc?Have some soup or salad before a meal. All that water in soup or EXTREMELY low calorie plant matter will fill you up, preventing you from gorging on dessert or carbs during a meal. When eating meats like pork or beef, cut out as much fat as possible. After I finish dinner, it looks like little strips of meat are all over my plate. It's really the fat. I get the protein, my dog (the husky), gets the fat. We're both happy with the arrangement.
