Again, Distemper, lead poisening (I doubt this very much, but is there lead in your paint?), liver diseases, and even brain tumors can cause seizures. Distemper is a pretty contagious disease. It usually starts out with a fever, and lack of energy... It progresses to weakness, lack of appetite, discharge from the eyes and nose, cough, pnemonia, and diarrhea (not ALL of these symptoms are evident). Some of the last stages are convulsions and then death. However, there have been cases where the owner didn't notice these signs in their dog, and only figured out that something was wrong after the dog experienced a seizure.

I think my dog has epilepsy....
-
If the dog had distemper, and it progressed to having seizures, wouldn't he would be pretty sick in general at that point. I would hope that the owner would notice the other sypmtoms by then.
If one of the other things you mentioned were the cause of the seizures, I would expect that the problem would become progressively worse.

we never gave him any chocolate..i would NEVER allow it. its just that my dog eats whatever he can fit into his mouth...:S

I only read about half the posts so sorry if this is already said but...
If the dog does have epilepsy maybe theres a medication he/she can take? It shouldn't be too expensive... -
update.....mom called me this morning and said that ozzy had two seizures since yesterday..so we are bringing him to the vet tomorrow..im so scared. every time i go there, my dog or cat has to be put down. i dont want this to happen again..i feel stomach sick. i love my dog soo much, hes only 2 -cries-can anyone help me here?? in what i can do to comfort him?
-
Epilepsy, if that's what it is (and it sounds like it is) is not a reason to put down a dog. There are effective medications, and the popular ones, I believe, are not very expensive.I have a friend who has epilepsy (as we discovered last May), and he's doing fine on an anti-seizure medication.

so we took ozzy to the vet yesterday...got his bloodwork done.he has epilepsy. i cant believe this. around this time last year my cat died..now this time my oldest dog gets sick, and ozzy gets epilepsy. -cries- this is really harsh. we have to give him 2 pills a day for the rest of his life now. ozzy also has a high liver enzymes but its not that serious, we just need him on a med that doesnt raise it on him. does anyone know which one he should take?? thats really cheap as well.? this week is so depressing :'(

Did you ask the vet? You're asking a pretty technical question. I'd certainly trust his advice over the opinion of a poster. (There is no "best" epilepsy medication; it depends on the patient.)

well shes gonna call back today...im just nervous as hell. shes gonna check out the prices for us, i just wasnt sure if anyone else knew, or i could get some idea of what the meds are like before she calls. im really scared.
