Well thats my question. One of my closest friends is always going through some self-inflicted overblown psychological trauma that gets to the point where it takes its toll on me. I hate seeing her like this, but I've noticed almost every girl is like that...

Why are you girls always so damn depressed?
-
you can't judge all girls on what you experience. that's narrowminded
-
I'm sorry about that. Well then why do you think that girls(IN MY EXPERIENCE) go so hard on themselves and put themselves through all kinds of stuff. I'm not sure if its lack of confidence, or just a maturity thing.. but I barely see this happen with guys.Again, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Perhaps because magazines constantly tell them they have to be unrealistically thin and pretty?

And here's something interesting: girls and women seem to get depressed more often than boys and men do. This could be related to the hormones girls have in their bodies, or to the differences between how boys and girls react to things.

Girls with high grade-point averages were found to be more depressed, to have more psychosomatic problems, and to have lower self-esteem than boys with equivalent grade-point averages.
In reply to:
During childhood the number of boys and girls affected are almost equal. In adolescence, twice as many girls as boys are diagnosed. (Similar to adult rate)
Here's an interesting essay, although it's a bit technical: Gender and Depression
I think it can be argued that girls have many more expectations to meet (at least in their own minds).

Thanks alot everyone. What really struck me was the comment on GPAs, since hers is really high.. and she thinks she is ugly but I don't understand how she sees that.

Girls are also more obsesed with impressing each other than boys are. Some girls want to be so thin that it's unnatractive to guys, but they can impress other girls with their prison camp skinniness.
