There is SO much here in the US. Many of us are hard pressed to see all of our own state, let alone get outta the country! Either your job takes you out, so you need a passport, or you FINALLY get to go on that ONE dream vacation and need one. People living on the borders probably have them, because Canada or Mexico is close?!?!

Yeah, I saw a figure in that neighborhood within the past few years.I guess America has it all. Why would anyone want to go anywhere else?
-
SteveA: "I guess America has it all. Why would anyone want to go anywhere else?"Pepsi: Well I suppose this is a perfect example of the attitude/reason why so few Americans feel the need to carry a passport. Sorry Pepsi, I'm not trying to be nasty, but it really IS a pity; because, believe it or not, there actually IS a world beyond the US!!

Everyone should vacation in sunny Miami Beach. It has everything Ireland has, except the Irish people speak Spanish here. And we don't have quite as many meadows and such. But we do have empenadas, and some damn good ones at that.
-
It;s weird because if you have to go somewhere you can't...everyone has passports here, I've had one since....forever as far as I remember. Kiwis travel. It's considered weird if you don't wanna.
-
It's not weird if you live in the US. Most people, especially with young children are not going to take a family vacation in Europe. It is way too expensive!I have two children that suck all the money out of me. So unless someone like SteveA or Angel or Mr. U, want to let me sleep at thier houses while I am vacationing in thier lovely cities, I will not be leaving Ohio any time soon.
-
You know theres a bed for you here anytime Lisa, i'll kick the manthing out for a bit for you............
-
Miami beach; now there is somewhere I would LOVE to go! Lisa made a good point I hadnt considered; because America is seperated from most of the rest of the world by massive oceans it is really quite expensvie to get out and about exploring. Because we are situated at the edge of western Europe we have a wider variety of countries within which we can travel at relative inexpense. And Lisa; I have a spare room and some lovely big comfy sofas in the sitting room so there's plenty of space for you and the kids to get your head down here if you ever find yourself in this part of the world!
-
Lisa finished my point! That there is so much here...many of our states are as big as countries, and we don't need passports for that. And travel is SO expensive, that is why my mention of the ONE dream vacation...My bosses are gonna buy a ranch in Italy, and a place in Hawaii...but it will still be expensive to go sigh I can barely afford the 200 and 300 mile drives to see my family, let alone a trip across the ocean!!
-
This isn't directed at you starfish, you were just the last to post hon ^^Lisa, you can always come to dry-as-a-bone Texas You don't need a passport here, but I have to admit, they should require it in some areas because believe me... it's like a whole other country at times! lol I live in what I like to call the ass-crack of Texas (or redneck central) and since I'll have my house soon people can come and visit me ^^
-
there is always a warm bed here Lisa. Won't cost you a dime!
-
I have a warm fold-out couch that's up for grabs when construction is hopefully done by the end of the year. (I have a refrigerator in the living room at the moment. Anyone want to buy a refrigerator?)
-
a frige in the livingroom? If you say it's full of beer, then I'll know that you actually live in heaven
-
It's full of cold air.
-
pft... so's my back yard
-
Awww, so cute. Everyone here is so...nice and friends and..stuff. Warm fuzzies.I can't offer anyone a place to stay but I can offer my services as a tour guide free of charge if anyone wants to visit
-
you know steve, I wouldnt be so full of yoursel for america, I did go on vacation to america this summer, and I didnt really enjoy it much. are you aware that you have more gunshops on one block than I have in my entire city?
-
Young man, be aware that America (i.e., the United States of) totally kicks ass, and it's not completely buried under a layer of permafrost. You can get anything you want supersized, whether it's your french fry order, or a feature of your body. The gun shop in my neighborhood (which has been around for a long time) was used as a backdrop when one of the network news programs reported on the new Florida "stand your ground" law went into effect (which kind of lets you shoot whomever you want if they step on your property). If a terrorist stepped on your lawn, what would you be able to do?
-
Are you purpously pulling the stereotypical "America is the greatest" attitude or are you serious?
In reply to:
If a terrorist stepped on your lawn, what would you be able to do?
The sensible question is how do you know who's a terrorist and who's not? I personally like a certain quote by Einstein, "Life is sacred, that is to say, it is the supreme value, to which all other values are subordinate." It's thinking in that manner that makes me oppose the death penalty and such free gun laws because the chance of taking innocent life, or even the act of delivering quick judgement whether someone attempting to steal something from your backyard is worthy of death, is impossible to justify under such a view. I view someone's life as something valuable, and America's open gun control policies, which leads America to have far more gun related deaths/injuries per capita than any other modern industrialized nation in the world, are difficult to justify by those standards. The argument is really whether or not you view personal security (which is ironic because in many cases individuals are more at risk of being shot by their own gun or the other person's gun by someone breaking into their home) is more valuable than people's lives.
